It's been a long time since I have been logged. Waaaay to much stuff to do in my life. I got some great ideas on Yellowstone and Grand Tetons last year and we really enjoyed that. This year I am planning to go to the Ozarks in late June. The good news is I am camping from Sunday through Friday so reservations shouldn't be an issue. I am looking for a great place to go in the Ozarks. Plus any ideas for fun things to see or do. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Are you thinking of Ozarks in Missouri or Arkansas or do you care?

There is a neat camp ground near Lesterville Mo on the Black river. I can't remember the name. You can then take day trips to Johnson Shut ins and elephant rocks.

To help narrow down suggestions, besides any geographic preferences:

    a) which of the following types of things interest you? Canoe/kayak float trips, tubing, fishing (including stream vs. lake), cave tours, climbing over rocks, nature/sightseeing, giant springs, seeing "shows" (Branson), outlet malls, wave runners, large lakes, etc.

    b) what kind of campsite do you prefer? Hookups, along a clear river bank (if it means no hookups), level of seclusion, small/family owned private, large private, state parks, National Park Service, showers, boondocking, a place with a swimming pool, horse riding, etc.

I don't care where. We will just be there Sunday through Thursday and I will be coming down from Milwaukee to meet up with relatives from Texas. So we can pop i and get a site anywhere. Has to have electric and water. Would like a place to swim and hike. Has to be low budget as the relatives are struggling financially and I will pick up cost of the costs and I can't afford to spend a lot on recreation for 6. So make hiking and we will have bikes. Not going to Branson or outlets malls.

I would say to you to check out lake Ozark state park. There are 3 levels to the park. the neatest is the lower level, its next to the lake and you can hike and has a swim beach, within walking distance. Shower houses are in good shape..plenty of shade..water and elec hook ups. Check out Bagnal dam, that's pretty cool and a lot of history in the area.,.If you go here take plenty of Deet. trust me.. ticks can be bad

Suggestions (these are all in SE MO):

    1) Johnsons Shutins State Park , with a half-day side trip to nearby Elephant Rocks State Park. I see you have a dog in your signature - be aware they not allowed in the water at the shutins .

    2) Alley Spring on the Jacks Fork River of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, with day side trips to Big Spring/Round Spring/Rocky Falls in the ONSR. https://www.nps.gov/ozar/index.htm

    3) Sam A. Baker State Park. If you want to do lots of in-park flat-land bike riding they have a nice long paved bike path separate from traffic, and 2 different streams to cool off in. https://mostateparks.com/park/sam-baker-state-park

    4) Onondoga Cave State Park https://mostateparks.com/park/onondaga-cave-state-park

    5) Meramec State Park https://mostateparks.com/park/meramec-state-park

For #1 & 2 - you are going to need reservations ASAP - may already be too late.
