That is easy to understand. With the Covid keeping some driving down They want to increase the revenue. No money coming in no money to waste. They control their own stimulus plan. Pretty cool concept right? Just like when cars started getting better fuel economy, burning less gas they doubled the tax on diesel fuel because the biggest users were transportation companies of coarse they raised the rates to us but, we did not complain because it did not affect us directly. Kind of bait and switch except legally run by our state governments. How cool is that?

After Covid hit, they shut down all the cash hand to hand exchange and made it pay by plate only if you didn’t hav a EZ pass., I don’t drive the turnpike often, however. I still do occasionally. But People are still using it, Not just Commercial use. It may not seem like it directly effects me everyday However, When it costs me DOUBLE to pull my camper across the State, I myself and others will seek different routes , or reconsider all together.. Plus commercial. Companies will continue to pass on there increased costs to us, just remember that when you pay a extra dollar for milk in the grocery store. the Turnpike. Has been in the RED. For years, long before covid, and they had and continue to raise prices for years to come .

Pa TP has been raising for years as you said vagov.. seems like twice annually in the last few. Personally i'll run up the NE Extension to I-80 then west, but they started talking about making that a toll road also.

The bridges into NJ have been following suit..

God I hate that road. Opposing directions are right next to each other for the entire length, making it feel twice as busy as it is, and the headlights from oncoming traffic at night is no fun, decreasing night vision.

I had to drive the length of it in snowy weather at night when I lived in Indiana to go visit my parents who then still lived in Jersey thirty years ago, and I remember vividly how horrible that part of the drive was.

The Harris County Toll Road (giant loop around Houston ) was sold to an independent company. The county sheriffs cars still escort the vans that pick up the cash from the booths. Harris County patrols and runs radar on the same road. The work vehicles say Harris county Toll Road Authority on the side but I don't see the Harris county emblem on them. I have never been able to figure this out. Sounds like a Republican/Democrat joint venture to me. I think they use the term Bipartisan. Bipartisan means we are splitting up the loot from this and you citizens get nothing and thanks for voting for us!

Really socking it to the folks without EZPass. Guess they need to pay off the new cashless equipment and the mailroom folks generating those bills-by-mail.

It's not too much longer going on alternatives to the Northeast Extension. Plus less chance of a texter doing 80 mph rear-ending me.

Think i heard the toll to cross state from NJ to OH was now $64.. that's more than it would cost me in fuel in a V8 Grand Cherokee. Then add in my trailer..

I never use turnpike's for that reason, plus they put more miles on your vehicle & you are driving faster than you probably should and have long stretches between rest stops, and God forbid if you have a blowout or some other type of emergency and have to pull over people will be speeding by you 70 miles per hour plus, only highways and byways for me

In 2006, Indiana "sold" their turnpike to a group of foreign investors.
