The popup that my husband and I bought was filthy inside. It had mildew on much of the canvas and dirt on everything. We pulled everything we could out. We took down the canvas washed and repaired it. We cleaned up the interior, replaced mattresses, washed the cushions, put new fabric on the cushions, repaired drawers and things. So much work. In the last few days we painted the cabinets and layed down sticky vinyl flooring. We like the look a lot, but the white cabinets will probably get dirty quickly, haha. We will see how they hold up. My husband also put the clips back in that hold the canvas, and we hung the curtains up. I would like to find valances for the ceiling. We are basically done with the interior. It feels great that we are so close to making this popup ready for camping. Now onto finishing our exterior to do list. No pics of when we first brought it home. I was too overwhelmed with the condition it was in that I didn't get pics. A lot of cleaning completed and new fabric on the cushions. New flooring and paint. Also all the little things fixed- drawers, trim, etc.
Looks great! I plan to do something with mine, although I don’t plan to paint the cabinets. I might change my mind as I love the look and HATE the existing orange, but with my animals, niece, and muddy hikes my cabinets would never look the same afterwards. So far I only replaced my curtains with real blackout curtains and with fabric I already had, put up a very simple (ruffle free) valance. Next up will be my cushions, but I’m going to use something waterproof or at least water resistant. However everything I looked at was so much money or would absolutely clash with everything so still researching. The floor I pretty much picked out, but had a lot of unexpected expenses it got put on hold.
White... uhhg... I have white cabinets in my TT and spend a few hours after each trip cleaning them.. they get dirty... specially if you camp at parks that dont have paved pads, or you have kids or dogs,, I'm thinking on painting my cabinets.. brown or black ..
We used kilz primer 2 and basic exterior latex paint. If you paint use a better primer and paint than us. I dont think what we used will hold up well. We lightly sanded before putting on 2 coats of primer.
I think your future color choices are definitely better for camping. We have 2 teen boys, so yeah a lot of hands and shoes to be touching the white cabinets!
Thank you so much. Yeah I bought this pop up for my wife and I thing I’m loving working on it more than she does. Can’t wait to paint it
Thanks everyone for the nice comments. The exterior has been completed. New tires, bearings greased, caulked, new vinyl trim on roof, painted some of the frame, etc. Excited about taking it out this weekend. I hope it all goes well!
We cleaned the caninets and than ran a sanding block over them to rough up a little, to get the primer to adhere better.
I'm impressed! I keep staring and can only imagine how your pup looked before you started. It's so encouraging to see people taking the time to fix up campers rather than throw them away
