    Hey gang!

I found myself with an extra day this weekend - nothing to do and feeling under the weather. I've discovered that, when I feel ill, if I can sweat like crazy it helps quite a bit in my recovery time.

Well, it's still summer in NC, so sweating is no problem. I pulled the shroud off my A/C, ran to Lowe's, and started my project.

The shroud was pretty dirty and grungy, so I hosed it off real well, then attacked it with some Windex and a scrub brush (seemed to work very well). Another good rinsing with the hose, then a once-over with some Acetone and it was ready for sanding.

I used a drywall sanding sponge (medium grit) to remove any plastic burrs and rough up the surface a bit for paint. Another good round with acetone and I was ready to rock (and sweating like a pig).

I decided to do the inside of the shroud first, in case I had any goof ups. Here are some pics:

That coat is outside drying right now - 2 to 3 more coats on the exterior, then a double coat of UV-protective clear coat and I think it's gonna look pretty sharp. Have some decals on order too that I think are going to make it look pretty awesome.

Will post final pics when it's done, and a shopping list and price breakdown if anyone is interested.

I actually pulled mine off today too while repairing some cracks on the ABS roof. Note above I can't see your pictures.

Oh sheesh - ok, sorry about that (I guess something changed and I wasn't aware :) ). Just applied the last coat of clear coat - will create a new post shortly with the before and after pics.

Just had to pack it all up for the night. All in all I got about 5 good coats on the exterior, and 3 solid coats of clear coat. It took all day as you have to wait at least 30 minutes between coats, but it looks pretty nice.

Two pics of the first pass with clear coat:
    Images 012 & 013

Two that I just took a minute ago when I moved it into the garage to cure overnight (pardon my mess, we just moved in and there is stuff everywhere!):
    Images 014 & 015

All in all a pretty fun project for a day off of work. I also stripped the heads on one of the bolts when I was removing the shroud so I bought stainless steel replacements for them. I bought a new said of phillips-head bolts as well as a set of hex head ones - going to try the hex head first but if they don't work our well I've got a backup.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
