    Lost in Space,

I agree with you totally, I love our camper, and I paid more than I should have, but its worth every dime. Talk about comfort, and Lord knows I need comfort, the wife and I are both disabled vets with lots of physical problems, so we need room to move around plus a comfy bed. I want to kep weight down to a minimum so building a wooden ramp would be nice, but heavy. Other than a ramp we are set with all the omcforts of home wether it be set up at a CG, or boondocking. even have a small 100W generator bought at Harbor Freight. Granted it won't run the A/C but it will run the heater, and other things.

I hate growing old, it really sucks most days, so we go kayaking and keep our spirits high and our hearts young!

Can I Ask What Do You Need The Ramp For ?
The Reason I Ask...There Is A Company That Builds Aluminum Ramps, Light Weight & They Fold Up...They Will Custom Build One For Your Needs...They Have Built A Few Ramps For Me...I Had A Ramp Built For My Dad's Pickup...He Raises Beagles, And Field Trials Them...Anyway, Dad Has Slide In Aluminum Dog Boxes In His Truck...So We Got Him A Ramp For His Dogs To Be Able To Run Up & Down Into The Back Of His Truck...The Company Built It To Our Specs...They Did A Great Job...I Also Bought From Them An Aluminum Cargo Tray That Slides Into Our 2" Hitch, On The Back Of The Jeep...It Will Hold Up To 500Lbs. Of Gear...

The Company Name: Five Star Mfg.,Inc.

    You-and-I,

The military surgeons said I'd be in a wheel chair within five to ten years, and that was 10 years and three months ago. So every month is borrowed time. I have DJD (Degenerative Joint Desease in both knees, both hips and a total of 5 vertabrates). Stairs kill me, ladders really hurt. We had VA put in a wheel chair ramp last year in preparation for the inevitable. I got all these problems from a military accident while on a remote assignment in Korea. So i take things easy, hense the COMFORT we NEEDED in our new Fleetwood Niagra. Just bought two mattress pillow topers (kingsize) for our hard Fleetwod mattresses.

So I'll probably be needing a ramp sooner or later, hopefully later, but the way my body has been feeling lately, it looks like sooner. And I'm only 47 years old, but feel 87 Y.O., but I have the spirit and mind of a 27 Y.O. . So WHEN I need a ramp something light weight and able to fold would be very nice, as long as its not expensive, because we are both on limited income.

    Yellowkayak,
Looking at what you chose as kayaks, and the fact you have so many plus a Jeep Wrangler, I figured your WERE 27 years old LOL You show the spirit and will to live that I wish everyone did (especially me, I'm 50) Because of you I am looking seriously at the Pungo 120 and trying to figure out how to carry it on the top of my Wrangler, any idea's?

I have a Dave's Rack. Look in JC Whitney home page and go to Jeeps, then type in your model (Wrangler), then year and then click on roof racks. Check out the Sports Rack. Its cheaper than my Dave's Rack. I removed the basket on my Dave's Rack to make it lighter when I flip it over to put my top down. Make sure you get a rack that allows you to put your top up and down.

On the Dave's Rack we have Thule Crossroad 450s and 52 inch bars, with Thule Stackers. We can haul four yaks on this rig with the yaks on their sides. On our Trailblazer we have the TK1 kit with Tracker II Foot Pack and 52 inch bars, and two sets of Thule Hullivators. Now those are a blessing for sure, they can lift the Hobie Adventures for us (72 pounds each yak). With my bad back and joints, the Hullivators are two thumbs up. I had them mounted on the Jeep Wrangler, but then we got the new Trailblazer, and decided to put the Hullivators on the new vehicle sense it is our primary camping and hauling vehicle.

    Hope that info helps.

Thanks guys for all the rack info. I need to check it all out. Now, what comes first, the Kayak or the Rack to carry it on? LOL

If you are going to put money into yaking, I'd get both at the same time, because once you get either, you want the other NOW!!!! Yaking is very addictive, especially if you fish out of them like we do!

Check out this link and join the forum. You will find alot of useful info from all of us on the kayak fishing forum:

Well I'm a newbie to the popup world and I'm so thankful for the wealth of info I found here.
I just got a 1989 Coleman Newport for $200. It does need a new canvas but everything else looks pretty darn good after a little cleaning.

Just bought it, but haven't brought it home yet. 1970 15ft Starcraft, $500 on the Boise Craigslist. There have been a couple others there in that price range, but either had NO canvas, or were the prefered canvas for a rattlecan artist. i was impressed how good mine smelled, how clean it was, and the fact that the tires and bearings are practically new (Les Schwab reciept included in the sale.) However the thing is Gutted- No inside kitchen- No inside plumbing (PortaPotti in the corner)- No electrical except for running lights. A lot of work yet, but still a big step up from Tent
    Camping!!
