POOP IN THE PUP! (A Truly Crappy Thread)

I answered "Only in an emergency," since I'm the one who has to dump the cassette toilet tank. Damn, I'm seeing Robin Williams in RV. That being said, when growing up my grandparents in TN didn't have a bathroom until I was 12, so I'm no stranger to an outhouse. I also worked with the Scouts for years and the troop had their own toilet seat because the facilities at some camps were not well kept. AND I served 20 years in the Navy, and pooping in some shipboard heads was not for the weak of stomach. BTW, even with the bathroom built, Grandma continued to use a chamber pot at night.

Wow, does that story bring back memories. My grandparents also had an outhouse. This was back in the early 1950s. I was only 8 years old. I can remember sitting in there doing my business and hoping that I did not fall down the hole. I remember doing a little jig with my butt to keep the flies off. What memories...!

One time finding out there's a wasp nest under that board you sat on and you no longer worried about flies. To this day if I have to go in a portajon I kick the box you sit on before sitting.

We just started camping this year, just 3 trips so far. Our pup doesn't have a toilet. After the 2nd trip we bought a camp toilet with the intentions of just using it for emergencies. On our 3rd trip the toilet was right there, I'm not walking to the bathroom. We used it exclusively over the CG restroom. Our next camper will have a dedicated toilet maybe even a shower.

Since we have a toilet and use ours most of the time, it’s a convenience that I wouldn’t be without. Those who don’t have one don’t know what they’re missing. This is partly what divides these campers from merely tent campers from an RV with hot water, a shower and a potty. We’ve yet to use our shower as I have a few upgrades to do to it but after our last showering experience at the state park, I’m very motivated to get moving on this.

Having a toilet in the campers, be it the folding toilet with gel bag system we used in the popups, or the flush toilet we now have in the small TT has been wonderful. We still use the campground facilities a lot, especially on longer stays, since we have to conserve waste tank space. However, not having to trek across a campground in rain, cold, middle of the night, etc. is wonderful. My husband didn't really use the folding toilet, except for the tent trip when we had it in the vestibule and he developed a high fever - I was very glad I didn't have to escort him in the rain, and down a muddy slope. When we got the trailer with flush toilet, he wasn't going to use it at all. Now, he's perfectly happy to use it during the night or in bad weather.
We do have a shower in our wet bath, but will never use it, short of desperation. We'd have to remove too much from the bathroom space, it's a tight fit, we don't want to deal with the humidity it'd add to the interior, not to mention that waste tank space conservation thing.

Actually, not so much so. I Have been tent camping with a toilet and shower of my own now for the last 15+ years after I finally had it with disgusting pit / vault toilets, and finding syringes in the showers in campground showers. No thank you! And not all RVs have full facilities. My VW Westfalia didn't. Back then I used a bucket / bag / cat litter and pool noodle system for a toilet, and one of those solar bag showers, set up in the side room tent off the side doors of the bus. I was too broke, and stupid to know any better at the time...

Back to the original question. And I think I should narrow it down a bit further and just say in any RV toilet. Do you poop in the RV toilet? I have, I do, and will continue to do so. In the case of our now we have it PUP, I will likely not set up the privy tent if it is just a 1 night / 2 day trip... 3 day / 2 nights and I am going to need a bit more space to SS&S...

Pooping in a pup is way different than pooping in a TT. I would only poop in a camper, at a campground with facilities, if it was a real flush toilet. You have to be pretty lazy to not walk to the bathroom to poop.

Even in our two popups (remember one was a 6' one), with a folding toilet and gel bags, I'd poop if necessary. Wasn't my first choice, but having the option was a huge improvement over ground camping. Not laziness, but recognition that anymore I don't go back to sleep well (or at all) if I've had to trek across a campground in the middle of the night. Some of the campgrounds we use have a 5-10 minute trek to the nearest toilet. [in one of our favorites in CO, I was base camped in a tent while my husband was off backpacking. The host warned me not to venture to the toilet after dark, due to a mountain lion in the area, turned out to be a few miles down the road. I measured the distance, and I was smack-dab center between two (vault) potties, .2 mile from either one.] Add in rain or hail storms, IBS & other health issues, and being 60+, and life it what it is.

Not using campground facilities isn't being lazy. Using your own toilet is about convenience, comfort, practicality, etc.

I have a toilet in both my campers. Why have them if I'm not going to use them? Whether it's the toilet with black tank in the clipper or the cassette toilet in the FnR, it's there to be used.

I guess it depends on how many people are in your popup. If you are alone poop away. Do people poop in tents when there is a bathhouse available. To each his own I guess. I would rather walk five minutes than poop in my bedroom.

The toilet in my master bath is three feet from my bedroom. It's one of those in your head things. At first we were no using the toilet in the PUP except for emergencies. That didn't last the first trip, kid had to pee in the middle of the night and I wasn't walking him there nor was I waking DW to do it. Then it was no pooping in it, then if you poop you empty it. Now it's just make sure you leave it clean and the valve closed. If you keep it clean and closed all that's needed is a few minutes of a couple windows opened to air it out and you really don't know poop is in the tank unless you fixate on it.

Absolutely use mine all the time. I don't know about everyone else but my camper has screens all the way around that allows air flow......good chemicals make for simple emptying. I also dont use an ENTIRE roll of toilet paper in one sitting either.... I'm not getting athletes feet from camp showers... I'll be in my little 3x4 shower hahahah..but having said this I'm so glad and usually camp by myself... I can see it being different with multiple people.
