Hi all! Longtime lurker of the Portal, current tent camper and a huge fan of everyone's pictures and advice they provide. My wife and I have been saving up to purchase a pop-up but we have recently got the word that our jobs will be taking us to Florida, the Orlando area to be more specific.

Now that we will be moving from Ohio to Florida relatively soon, is a pop-up a feasible option in the Florida heat and humidity? We do have a 1.5 year old to keep cool and I am a little unsure if a pop-up AC can keep up with the high temps. Anyone have any experience or expertise that they could provide?

    Thanks a ton!

There are lots of us regulars here in Florida! A rooftop a/c will cool the camper just fine. Lots of people use reflectix in the bunk windows and pugs (emergency blankets) on top the bunk ends to help with insulating. However, we camp in Florida year round and do just fine without either. We have camped both with and without them, currently have nothing but our canvas and it's just fine.

The hottest trip we had was St. George Island in August. It was something like 110 degrees or more, and completely miserable outside the camper, even in the gulf water, due to microscopic stinging jelly fish larvae. We were still comfortable inside the camper, even in the sun! The sites at that state park have heavy foliage between sites, very private, but no actual shade trees. On that particular tip, it got warm, not hot, in the bunk ends during the day. I only know this because we spent so much time in the camper and took naps.
