I see a lot of people posting to avoid camper roof mountaing a kayak or anything. Everyone recomends the TV, however i also plan on using a truck bed tent if I have a several people go with. So i was curious would bolts have to be driven through the entire roof of the PUC in order to make a DIY rack setup? I'm still 50/50 on all of it because I can never really say when I will take guests or the kayak or even both.

When I added a roof rack to my 82 Coleman Columbia many years ago, I use the Yakima system and the bolts went through the roof.

There are other ways to carry your kayak on the camper's roof. Checkout the "Cargo Carriers / Bike Racks / Other Storage Option" board for some ideas.

I have a set of inflatable racks I'm not using anymore if you want to buy them, $50.

I take the inflatable yaks. Not the best but fun for floating around a bit. If your not in a race, they are worth it. Those are pretty cool though. Never saw them before.

I have a Sea Eagle inflatable kayak which lasted me close to 10 seasons when I accidentally broke the valve by dropping something heavy on it. It had it's downsides, hated how high in the water it rode for instance. However, for just puttering on a lake it was great. I was looking at an expensive inflatable but couldn't justify the cost. I ended up buying another Sea Eagle. Your not going to be winning races and they are very susceptible to wind especially mine. So you do need to look at how and where you use it. However it's very easy to throw in the trunk of your car or store in a closet.

Ditto, sea eagle and mine is old. Maybe 15 to 20 years now. Still works. Get the better seats. Lol. They didnt have that option way back then.

Steve, the inflatable racks you show a picture of, does the strap that goes through the cab get in the way of your head or vision?

I never used them on the TV, only the camper. But I don't think they would be in the way on the TV unless you are tall and already have your head touching the roof.

I built an aluminum Rack that bolts to the bumper mounts and the tongue that lifts off by socket and pin connection to raise and open the bunks. It allows me to put a kayak or aluminum boat above the roof without touching it. I also built a bike rack that spans the 2 rails so I can carry 2 bikes and the canoe if I want
