I was just thinking of the many quotes our parents used and got a chuckle! When my dad would see a nice car or camper he would say:

"Boy, I wish I had his and he had a better one"

    One of the funnier ones:

"My dad always said, son, never use a little hammer when a big hammer will do"

What did your parents always say?

When my mom had enough of us doing whatever we were doing as teenage angels she would say with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth-
"I'm getting a headache and my arm is getting numb, god d*** it, you kids are gonna give me a stroke." while holding out her arm.

She stopped when we all started having strokes to make fun of her.

fun times, we still talk about it when we all get together.

While driving down the road (this was when kids were still sitting in front seats), my dad would reach over and grab my forehead. I'd look over at him, wondering what was going on. He'd point at the sign and say "sign said Stop Ahead."

my dad would tell us - when we were pouting.....

Stick that lower lip out any further and a rooster will roost on it!

wheneer somone used the term 'hey!' (very common greeting in Wisconsin where I grew up - but my dad, older brother and sister were from Ohio - Mom's from Georgia) the conversation would go like this -

    'Hey!'
Dad replies "Straw's cheaper, grass is free"

my dad was the one who hooked us on camping. I lost him on Father's day, 2001 - i miss hime every single day.

When my dad would someone doing something that didn't make much sense he would say, "Check out this guy. He's as sharp as a bowling ball."

And when he had heard enough of me or my brother he would say, "Stop acting like a hemorrhoid." Never really understood the power of that statement until I became an adult. I must have been pretty annoying at times.

    "Pull my finger......."

"If I have to stop this car......."

and a true southern one, "You have done it now, go cut a switch....." if you cut it too small, you got it worse, found out quickly that the thicker one did not hurt as much-lol

The bowling ball bit reminded me! My Dad would say someone was as sharp as a mashed potato sandwich. And when Mom dared to criticize one of his questionable acquaintances he'd say "There's a lot worse guys than him in the world". Where did they get this stuff?

    DH loves to tell DD's

"I brought you into this world and I can take you out" (Bill Cosby)...

I heard this and used it a lot with DD's attitudes...

"Put a rubber band around you head and snap out of it"

Well, this is'nt really a saying, but I found myself saying it the other day and I couldn't believe how much I sounded like my Dad.
We were at a picnic the other day and after eating the kids wanted to go swimming and I actually told them they needed to "Wait for a 1/2 hour" I must be getting old!!!!!

The one I remember the most was "If it don't go, You don't go" in reference to my 72 Plymouth Fury. I learned to be a pretty good mechanic to keep it running. Nothing worse than being 16 and stranded on the farm LOL.

If we were being good (for a change) my mom would occassionally swat us on the backsides (goently) and tell us "That was for nothing, now go do something."

Thats funny this is on here now. I just got back from our wet and soggy camp out and this quote that I will add to my signature came to mind. "If its not worth taking care of its not worth buying".
I didn't want to put everything away all wet and dirty so I washed and dried all the hoses, chairs, buckets, swim things, ropes, stakes, dried and cleaned all the vinyl etc., etc. etc. the kids kept asking me what was taking so long and my dads quote popped into my head. Both my son and my niece looked at me and I had to explain to thses two children that have no wants. That it does not matter that in our throw away society that it is still important to care for things that you really want. I think they got it. I explained that I had planned to buy a pop up over 20 years ago, but plans changed. I got married started having kids and it just never happened. Now that I have it I am going to take real good care of it. You'll have to read my post in the camp out section about how wet our trip was.
Thanks for the memories- I have plans to one day write down all the quotes my parents said. Maybe I'll get it done soon. -Angela

My mom still says.... Kill em when they are 12, resurrect them at 21. This way you don't have to deal with the teenage years!!!

my mom's new quote that we enjoy is "it's clear enough, just go"...i am her taxi and when we are in traffic or big towns, she co-pilots..so she thinks. actually she just holds my tea jug ! there is a reason mom doesn't drive anymore!!
dad's quote was rude but i never really got it til i got older and no abuse was distributed..."shut up or i'll nail your other foot to the floor" and "drink it or wear it" i wore it quite often!

My Dad's and I still remember it. When we were told to do something we quite often answered with "Who Me". Dad's response was Do you got feathers on your butt. Does your feet fit a limb?

And yes I miss my Dad and Mom. Been gone awhile now and yesterday was his birthday.
