I am still new to this anywho, I set my PUC out in my back yard so that we can get it ready for our week long camping trip next month, but now its raining cats and dogs. [:!] Question is how well do pop ups really do in the rain? [?:~{] Should I be worried?

Pop ups do very well in the rain. Now you can leak test it (go out and check for leaks). Better to know now than find out on a trip. Be sure to have the roof vent and windows closed. If you are expecting a lot of rain for several days, you may want to make sure the water on the roof runs off to one end or the other.

We have had some torrential rains (in my qwest pup)... never had a leak... it is actually quite nice to be out in the rain, rather relaxing if you ask me.

We just returned from a 4 day camping trip in our N2U PUP. 2006 Rockwood 2307 in good shape. It rained HARD each of the 3 nights. So much so that the tent campers packed up and left. We had no leaks and no problems other than I left the roof vent up one evening and got a little wet. Depending on the condition of your canvas and windows you should be fine, if you notice some leaking (mostly around seams) before you take it out next time buy and apply some seam sealer. That should cure it. Have a great trip!

Like the others said, ours does very well in the rain. We've had incredibly hard rain and never a drop inside.

Get into the pup and look for leaking.

Just got back inside from checking on the pop up and pure awesomeness, she's as dry as can be. As for me, well time to change into some dry clothes. [LOL] Thank You All.

I find that camping in the rain is quite relaxing. Last year I had my share of wet camping trips. And even though I enjoy the rain, I hope we have more dry days than wet this year.

Well, it would be in your roof, should have a crank open cover on top and maybe a fan if so equipped. And a screen to keep bugs out

My first trip ended in a severe rain. I did get water in the popup, but think it was due to my vent not totally closed. In the middle of sheets of rain, I checked the canvas to hard side connections, and not a drop!

Agreed, rain on canvas is very soothing.

Wishing I was at Waskesieu!!
When we brought our N2U s pup home a couple of weeks ago, I set it up in the yard to get it stocked. It rained for two days straight before I could finish, and when I went out after that, it was bone dry inside. I even fired up the furnace (I had to test it you know), and spent some time listening to the rain.

Never had a problem with the rain either. I dont mind a little rain while camping, just dont like taking down the pup when the canvas is drenched.

the one thing i haven't seen mentioned in this thread so far: nothing wrong with getting caught in the rain, except when it comes time to break camp and having to put everything up wet. but, make sure you set it back up within a day or so once you get home so everything will dry or you will have mildew and mold problems!

Weird. We don't have one of those.

Are coachmen part of coleman? Or is it like Ford and Toyota?

My starcraft got a good test 1st time out it rained 7 days and 7 nights, only water that made its way in was around the tip-out side. All was needed was an adjustment in the canvas/material at that spot. I must say the furnace was a welcome item compared to tent camping when it came to keeping things damp free. We (wife and 2 toddlers) still had a great time. The kids were more disappointed in not being able to swim in the river:).......speaking of rain i just pulled mine out of storage yesterday which was beautiful and sunny only to find the next 4 days they are calling for rain:(

Different manufacturer.
It's gotten pretty simple over the years because of consolidations and failures. For example, Coleman, aka Blackstreet Capital, went out of business last yr. Their lineage is a story all by itself. Forest River makes several brands in different divisions, similar to GM. Jayco purchased Starcraft a some time ago back but AFAIK Starcraft is still run pretty independently. For a while they were built in the same factory but that changed a few yrs. ago. Aliner just acquired the rights to all Coleman patents, designs, etc. and are beginning to market a line called Somerset. This is a line in the company, not a separate division. Think that takes care of all the major players.

I think it is a good test for the camper to check for leaks before you are out on a camping trip. Just try not to touch the canvas from the inside when it is wet or has morning dew on it. It will get moisture on the inside when you touch it. Let it dry out before you put it down. If that is not possible, open it back up when it is dry out to air out and dry.

As most said already, camping in the rain is relaxing. Personally it gives me a reason to "slow down" and relax, that is why I enjoy it when it rains on our camping trips. Now if it rained the entire time I would be a little bummed but a shower here and there is ok with me.

With that said, I mean a typical shower, not a storm. I've been in some major storms with mine, it gets scary in there, far from relaxing, with lightning hitting close, hail, huge down pour, high winds, etc.. but it holds up and does just well, not a leak at all.
