My trailer is giving me a rattle I can't figure out. I'm newly towing a 2003 Jayco QWest tent trailer with a 2007 Sienna. I've towed it a couple hundred miles already. On the road, at over 50km/h (30mph) the trailer has a rattle that can be heard inside my van with the windows up or down. It almost sounds like something is tapping on the roof of the trailer, but I can't figure it out. I've over-secured all the possible suspects, just to rule them out (hitch assembly, propane tank, stairs, support arms, anything not tied down inside).

    Anyone ever encountered this??

    Is it your hitch rattling?

It doesn't sound like a hitch rattle. But I'll put a Curt anti-rattle bracket in there to make sure and update here. Thanks.

My friends camper was doing the same thing. We narrowed it down to the round sand pads on the front stabilizers.

sure a wood pecker didn’t fly in, and just wants out. [LOL] Just kidding. Not sure if you tried this, but did you or someone stand out on the side while someone drives by. More likely a sound would be easier to pinpoint with someone outside. Could there be something inside the camper that is bouncing around causing it to sound like it’s a camper issue?

Maybe check the roof latches on the pup and see if there is any play in them when latched down. Could be when you get up to speed the roof is moving a bit as air pressure tries to lift it???

Rattlesnake that doesn't like high-speed travel? [LOL]

Could it be a line or cable under the camper that, once past a given speed, starts oscillating and hitting the floorboards of the camper?

Is that why my after market stabilizer pads came with plastic bushings for the shiny bolts?

An update - On my last trip out, albeit a short one (40km), I didn't encounter this rattle. Besides snugging up almost any bolt I could find, I travelled with a CURT anti-rattle hitch bracket and better secured the battery box and its wires. We'll see how the summer pans out!

My hitch assembly was given me a pronounced slap when the electric brakes released. Well the Curt hitch plate took that out of the picture entirely. It works quite well.
