Well, it looks like the federal government shutdown has impacted recreation.gov. Does that mean the campgrounds are closed too?

From what I heard on TV, folks in campgrounds now will have 48 hours to pack up, and get out, and no one can come in.. That's the FEDERAL campgrounds, the State Parks, and campgrounds shouldn't be affected.

Why don't the elected officials who can't come to a decision take a voluntary lapse in pay and amenities, along with all of those who hang on their coat tail pockets, and leave those of us who work alone? If you don't produce, you don't get paid.

Utah has 5 major National Parks. Many will pour into area State Parks. I was planning on camping starting Thursday.

So state parks will remain open then? Is this for all states or just certain ones?

It depends on the state. Massachusetts state parks are all closed for the season due to budget cuts :-(

We drove through the Ouachita National Forest this weekend. Really sad to see closed signs on National Forest sites and Core of Engineer parks. [:(] [:(!] [V] [:!]

All of the campgrounds in the North Cascades National Park were closed this weekend during our journey. It was so disappointing to see yellow caution tape and large signs up. Even the viewpoints were roped off. Very sad. [:(] On our way up to our destination, which was a private park, I really wanted to stop at a few of the National Park campgrounds to get some ideas for camping next Spring, but we couldn't even get past the entrance of them.

There are some Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife places with CGs up there and they are still open -- at least until the snow flies and closes the access roads. These places are either free or have a very small fee.

Good to know! I was mainly interested in checking out a couple of CGs that I'd heard about from others. Colonial Creek is one in particular, but it was impacted by the Gov't shutdown.

Actually, only a few MA state parks have closed already but almost all of them will close after Columbus weekend.

The Army Corps of Engineers CG is closed in VT, we were hoping to get up there while the weather is so mild during the height of Foliage Season.

The real victims here are the small town local businesses throughout the nation that are effected by this stupid closing.

We went camping this past weekend at Trout Lake Creek CG in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. There was a closed sign on the bulletin board and the pay slot was wrapped in plastic and taped shut, but the campground itself was not gated. We had the campground to ourselves the first night and then two other families came in on Saturday night. We had a gorgeous site next to the river. So even though we're hearing the campgrounds are all closed they're not necessarily gated. It really may have depended on what could be closed before everyone was told to stop working or how far out of the way the site is. Realistically it's not possible to shut down every National Forest site. Plus we found several boon docking sites that would have been great possibilities.

Doesn't the "Closed " sign mean you are not supposed to go in there?

We had reservations for 10/4-10/5 and received a call from the US Army Corps of Engineers giving us a phone number to call (whenever they open) for a refund. Yes, ALL federal campgrounds are closed, and I believe most have chains at the gates.

We spent the weekend at a KS state park. Outside of some PUP issues, we had a fantastic time.

Yes, it does mean that. But some people go in anyway. In some cases they get away with it but if a patrol officer happened along they could have been tossed out and perhaps given a citation. How likely is this? Well, the Cascade Range in Washington State coves an area that is more than twice the size of New Jersey.
