We stayed at Red Shoes RV Resort next to the Coushatta Casino in Kinder, LA over the weekend. The original plan was Sam Houston Jones, but we arrived at 9:45 and they had already shut down the computers (supposed to be open til 10... grrr) so we couldn't get in and had to keep driving. We didn't find a spot to set up and get some shut-eye til midnight. It was FREEZING cold and dh swears we will never head out without reservations again. [:O]

THE GOOD: You can check in at midnight with no reservations, and someone is there to receive you. Woo hoo! It's a large place and I doubt it fills up. You've got electric and sewer hookups, paved pull-thrus with picnic tables, pool, dog park, clean bathrooms, laundry facilities. You can also find coupons on their website sometimes. There is a free shuttle to/from the casino that runs all day/night every day... and hey, an a huge on-site CASINO is pretty nifty too! They also had doughnuts at the lodge in the morning, if you desired. Despite the drinking and 24-hour casino, it was peaceful and quiet with great neighbors in the RV park. Also, if you're gambling, it is really super easy to get a comp at the RV park.

THE BAD: This is an RV park. Hundreds of campers, and we were the only pop-up dwarfed in a land of big rigs. Don't expect trees or spacious sites, or anything remotely resembling a state park. It is $40 a night if you don't get a comp. There's not much in and around Kinder, so bring what you need in the way of food and supplies. There's a gas station at the casino and a Sonic, McDonald's, and a couple little cajun restaurants.

Overall, I give it good reviews if you're looking for an inexpensive place to rest your head on a trip to the casino. It is NOT a "camping" trip, but we'd stay there again in a heartbeat for a casino trip.
