Roof sidewall thickness

just finished that job on my roof all 4 sides replaced i used 1/2" OSB but after 2 layers of the metal put on (outside and Inside) it was gonna be a little thick so i used a belt sander along the bottom edge to thin it out some before the outside metal went on, i got all new metal from Menards i bought what they call a "trim coil" it was 50' long and 2' wide so one coil was enough for everything if you glue on any metal on the sides make sure its really really flat cause if you glue the metal on and the wood is curved it will stay that way when dry and make the broads look warped i have 1 that's not really straight but it worked anyway and still seals when closed few pictures to peek at work is getting closer to being done later this summer or later depending on my time w\the whole back wall will need to be rebuilt also and part of the side wall on the slider side

@Michael J At least from this distance, it looks factory fresh in the final picture. I love how you used buckets to keep the roof safe while you worked on it! Use what you have on hand.

It looks good. Thanks for sharing what you used for the exterior metal. I know about aluminum and tin flashing but hadn't explored textured, painted options like that. Nice find.

I bought some flat stock (gutter material) It's a bit thicker than the coil flashing the local lumber yard had. The width's they had were either too narrow, or way too wide. I need 8.5" and got 11+". I'll find out today how that works. Ideas on how best to cut the material are appreciated. Also, what are ppl using for replacement screws, type and length please?

Update: The pup is a '92 Starcraft Starflyer. I also believe it's a bulb type roof seal. The width of the "T" is 7/16, thickness (of the old used seal) varies, but it's in the neighborhood of 1/2". I see quite a few hits here and there starting with the model year 1994 - something like 2008. I read somewhere that this pup was made after Jayco bought out StarCraft pups, but left the StarCraft name on it. Meaning Jayco parts were often, but not always used during these years. Anyway, I've spent a lot of hours without any luck finding the right seal. Any help is appreciated!

Doing the roof sides on my '92 Starflyer, having zero luck finding the replacement bulb seal weatherstripping, mine goes into a "T" Slot that is exactly 7/16" wide, I don't care so much about the width or height of the bulb. I don't want to use something generic, I can, if I have to, use something a bit wider and trim it down slightly, (I'm thinking 1/2").
Need help finding this. I don't care if it's for a non RV application, I just need the right size. Thanks.

I visited my local rv shop and created a stir about the availability of the sidewall for my pup.

the manager said they were not available any longer and this was verified by coachman/viking.

the other employee begged to differ....

ANYWAY, looks like i may need to try a restoration myself but the problem is the thickness of the sidewall.

someone here must have an idea what the thickness of the material used for the sidewall is. The manager said it was a weird thickness , probably 9/16”, fatter than 1/2, not quite 3/4”.

great excuse to buy a small planer to shape a 1”x12’ X 8”piece of good lumber.

right now i am just doing exploratory and removing the molding and retaping/sealing this disaster until fall when i can get serious and do the work....

any ideas on the wall thick for my 2001 viking saga G2107?

I'm thinking 5/8 plywood would be the right thickness

A set of calipers will get you within a couple of thousandths.

I agree with this approach. I like using my Digitl Calipers for a lot of projects. Also 1/16th of an inch is not much, maybe sand the surfaces that need a slight reduction. Good Luck with your repair. I have repaired the ends of the roof of my Coleman Chesapeake PUC, so I understand your situation.

I'm actually doing this right now on my 2008 P280 Palomino Pony. BTW Did I mention how much I hate Mfgrs using OSB in Trailers?
I'm making my sidewalls from 5/8 Good 2 Side plywood and will cover with a roof membrane.
For the top, I'm actually using 3/4 plywood that I kerf cut to get the rounded front and back edges.

I have all the cuts made, now I need to glue and screw it together on the weekend.
