Roof vent addition

Hi all,

I have an old 2000 coleman taos popup, simple and bare bones, it keeps us off the ground. It does not have a roof vent, but I'd like to put one in to make for better air circulation. Can I? Where would be the best spot to put it? How would you cut the roof? Just looking for some ideas and suggestions.

Start by seeing if your trailer was ever available with one and use the same location as the factory vent. This way you will avoid cutting structural components or wiring. There are quite a few good how to videos on YouTube on this.

Essentially:
Mark the hole
Cut to size
Apply butyl tape around opening
Place vent in opening
Secure with screws
Put dicor lap sealant heavily around edges of vent
Let dry and test for leaks

There may be a square of 4 plastic buttons in your ceiling to mark the location for a hole framed for addition of a vent or a/c.

Our Laredo (same as Taos except layout) didn’t have one either but did have a hole for a wood burning stove. I bought a maxxair fan and laid out the template nice and square and cut it out.

I would just suggest finding a convenient spot where it won’t interfere when folded up.

That’s one thing I wish I had on my camper. It would really help evacuate the heat from the camper. I have the 4 pilot holes above where the shower option would go. But I would need to have it professionally installed.

Roof vents are nice. Then they leak.

Seal it well and keep an eye on it.

Thanks all. I do have the 4 buttons on the ceiling. I think I'll buy it and make it a winter project in a heated garage. I do appreciate the input!!
