We just stayed a week at Myrtle Beach State Park over the 4th of July. I was really impressed. It is a large park with sites pretty close together, but you would not notice it that much because there are lots of trees that divides things up a bit. Being there over the 4th of July I expected a lot of noisy campers, but that was not the case. We hardly heard anything from our neighbors. The only noise we really heard were the cicadas and noisy birds. The campground is just a short walk to the beach. The beach is beautiful and the water was nice and warm. There were plenty of bathrooms/bath houses so it was just a short walk from any site. The campground hosts/volunteers were very nice and kept the campground clean. I saw them walking around picking up after the errant trash. I would definitely return to this campground.

MBSP is south of Myrtle Beach proper. I have heard good things about the park as well. We are headed that way in a couple weeks....we are staying this time at Ocean Lakes - Power for the AC, WiFi, Cable TV, ice cream stand 100' away from our site....no boondocking this trip!

Actually, there is now free wi-fi at the ranger office at MBSP and there are electric hookups at ALL the sites to run the AC. They just don't have cable, but who needs that anyway?

I didn't realize there was power to all the sites there - will have to consider it for the next trip.

Most of the SC state parks have electric at all sites except designated tent sites. There are a couple of campgrounds up around the SC/GA border that only have electric on a couple of loops, but that is an oddity.

We are reserved for a week in August. What site did you stay at? Was it easy access to the beach? Anything we should know before our visit? I'm glad to hear you liked the park.

Seems like there are a lot of us who enjoy MBSP- we'll have to coordinate our trips next year!! We'll be there next week- I can't wait!

Snipehunter- be sure to check out the classes at the nature center for the kids. They're really great- our 11 y-o DD loves them! If they do 3 classes, they get a badge.

We were there Mem wk end too!! Although there were a lot of people there, it didn't really feel crowded. One of the things that we really like about it there is that when the 10 pm quiet time hits- it really does get very quiet.
Did you see the sharks from the pier? We rode our bikes down Sat. evening and there was a guy cleaning his fish- when he'd throw the guts in the water, there were 2 sharks that would come up to feed. They were LARGE!!!

DW and I wanted to stay there this past weekend, but we waited too late to get a site. And they wouldn't let us put our pup on a tent site. So we went to MB KOA instead. It was very nice, but I think we still would have preferred MBSP.
