I don't know where you are staying but I've never had anything disappear. I've been in campgrounds when a murder has taken place and other nefarious activities but I have never worried as much as you seem to be about security.

I lock the camper door when we are away all day. I put the expensive electronics out of sight inside the camper. I also usually have about $1000 in cash hidden under my floor jack.

Most of the stuff I've lost camping was hauled off by raccoons.

Here's a handy hint for when you stay in a hotel, leave your bags, and are out for the day. Leave a big tube of Preparation H on top of your clothes, where it's the first thing seen if the bag is opened. Never had my stuff gone through.

I would guess that it is coincidental. A tube of preparation H is gonna have no bearing on whether you have something worth stealing. Nor will it make a potential thief get all grossed out and not want to touch your things.

In 55 years of camping in states and provinces around Minnesota and the West, I've never had anything stolen. I used to leave everything out on the picnic table, but I don't tempt fate anymore. I stow things in/under the camper and into the SUV before leaving the campsite for the day. A glance at population in the US sheds some light on many issues... US population the year John Muir (founder of the Sierra Club and early advocate for the preservation of wilderness in the US) died, 1935 = 99 million... 2019 = 328.98 million.... Projection for 2050 = 438 million. Bound to be less open space and more bad apples.

Just got back from a week at Yellowstone. We were gone all day almost every day, sometimes from 8AM until after 10pm. The only thing I locked up was our portable solar panels, which was with a relatively wimpy cable and easy to pick padlock. We left out chairs, firewood, lanterns... everything but stuff that would attract bears.

I did lock the popup, to keep out nosy kids or rangers, but all they would have had to do was un-velcro the door and reach in of course.

    We had no issues.

Dang, another acronym. It has surprised me how many we use, and I'm running into my limit of 10,000 characters.
