I grew up camping here when it was just a road through the woods with scattered picnic tables and a long walk to the outhouse. It has changed a whole lot since then.

This is a city owned campground that sits between Glenn Shoals Lake and Old Hillsboro Lake. There are about 200 shady sites in a forest of mature oaks and hickories. The sites are gravel pads that are reasonably spaced, but no shrubs to provide privacy.

The RV sites have water and electric. The water spigots are shared and may require extra hose to reach (we used 50 ft). Nice clean restroom/shower house. In fact, these were the best showers of our 4 week road trip. Dump station by the shower house. Laundry at the back of the shower house. Ice for sale by the camp host sites. A good sized playground with newer climbing structures. On the far side of loop B is a small restroom building, which is, of course, called Little John.

Some of the sites are rented seasonally. Some are occupied by locals who just come out on weekends. Others are snowbirds who spend the summer here. Everyone was very friendly.

Fishing is the main attraction. Both lakes are stocked. All boats need a permit which is available at City Hall during business hours or the Fire Department 24/7.

Although the website doesn't mention it, they do take reservations by phone. It's probably a good idea to get reservations, especially for a summer weekend.
