What do you all think about this? Our pup has an outdoor shower so I've been thinking about buying one of those popup tents and taking a shower at the campsite. I do not see anything in the campground rules that say anything about this but its pretty much like dumping grey water in the site. The rules don't cover letting grey water out either but that doesn't mean its ok.

My thought is about the wet ground around the camper. Rain is bad enough to make a mess but adding our own water/mud around camper is not my dream

You should catch as much shower water as possible and dispose of it like you would other gray water. Some people stand in Rubbermaid tubs. Some use mortar-mixing basins. That sort of thing.

oopps... posted this in the "Clueless campers" forum... meant to post it here

on the Grey Water issue ... we use Castile Soap when we're camping [dishes AND body]... it's bio-degradable and considered highly "green friendly'... works pretty good.

Still many want or require you to catch the greay. You may use the soap but others will not. Best to have something to capture the water with.

AGREED...it's a "carry over" from backwoods tenting days and, if there's any "spillover", I'm not freaking out over it

I lay down a tarp when I shower outside. I never go to campsites, boondock only for me (please and thank you). It keeps the mud off the feet. Maybe you can channel the grey water into something with a tarp?

You just shower naked out in middle of a field while standing on a tarp?

We bought a shower tent on an end of season sale and I immediately started the mods.

I added velcro strips to the bottom edge to attach a tub-shaped floor of waterproof nylon. The floor has handles and can be pulled out like a large bag and then drained wherever gray water is acceptable.

Then I added a bulkhead fitting to one corner of the floor, so we can attach a gray water hose and direct the water to a container or just away from camp. This is mostly used when we boondock for a week or more and I don't want a wet spot near the pup.

I always thought a washing machine tray would work very well for an outside shower. It even comes with its own fitting to drain the water wherever you want it to go.

I would always specifically ask the head of the campground where you are camping. We have stayed at places that had no problem at all with showering at my campsite, as long as the grey water was dispersed without washing out the topsoil. Of course, we have also camped where the campground would freak out if you dropped a single drop of grey water on the ground. I would never assume anything just because the online rules do or don't address the issue.

Grey water is such a grey area in Arizona. In a campsite it is odd to be dumping anything on the ground. Boondocking it would be just as strange to be catching it unless you are near a stream or lake.

We have a folding pool for dogs that has a drain so we can attach a hose to empty it in a container. It fits in our small portable shower tent perfectly.
