So I was at the gas station and someone noticed my camper and asked where I was heading, I replied that the next place I was going camping was Yellowstone...

Them: "Err.. Yellowstone, whats Yellowstone.. where's that?"

    Me: "Yellowstone National Park"

    Them: "Where's that?"

Me while inside: " Its out West.

Them: "Oh that's why I've never heard of it.. Never been out West"

    Me: "Yeah"

Would it be mean to say I think my IQ dropped 16.7 points because of that conversation?

And what's up with, what did he say...national parks? It's bad enough they put parks in cities. Heaven forbid they make state and national parks too. What is this place coming to?

Sumoman it wasn't your IQ that dropped. You encountered a poor unfortunate that was a product of today's low information society.

You would be surprised how many people don't travel. DW works with a guy that blows a wad of cash going to Cancun once a year. She told him she couldn't imagine going on vacation or traveling one time a year. We love to travel and go about 10 times a year, most pupping on long weekends and a few longer trips and one week beach condo. Some folks never leave their town, too bad for them.

I actually like banjo when played in Bluegrass. No it just is very disheartening. I'd understand not knowing that the nation's smallest national park is in Maine, but not knowing what, where... Its Yellowstone for crying out loud.

I can accept not knowing where it is easier than I can understand having never heard of it! A person doesn't have to be a traveler to have at least heard of Yellowstone.

    To the Original Poster:
I apologize for the banjo crack and starting everyone down Wisenheimer Road. Do know that it was all in fun. My initial thought was to goof on Kentucky itself because, well, I'm in a neighboring, and some may believe, "Superior" state. Truth is, most of the time I tell people I'm from West Pennsyltucky.
Ever been to Ohio? It's beautiful, but for every highly intelligent person in the population, we have another who is a complete dope! If Yellowstone were in Ohio, we would still have residents who would have never heard of it. Sign of the times? Sign of the future? I hope not! [:!]

You're right Diane --low information individuals are becoming scarily more common in this country. Not a good thing when it comes to politics and the welfare of our country either!!

Yellowstone is down that dark wooded animal looking trail next to your campsite. Mostly visited at night.

Seriously you should of just started making up a fake state it is in, turn the tables onto them.

All states, all countries, all genders and all races have their idiots. Why does there seem to be more of them when information is more available than ever?
