I saw that. "...50 people were within 5-10 feet of the bison for at least 20 minutes..."

    What were they thinking?????

Hope she's going to be ok, but shiitake mushrooms people. 2000lb animal + 10 feet away = bad news

Best line is that" wildlife in Yellowstone national park is wild. " Unfortunately this will continue, as i dont see some people getting smarter. They were said to be petting the bison eariler. Um, not a smart idea.

We have done away with natural selection among humans but people are still trying.

Humans will remain dense and wildlife will remain wild.

Even domesticated animals can be dangerous. We had some yaks escape from a farm and they ended up wandering around our local reservoir area. Ever see the horns on those suckers?! A hiker got a few feet away from them until they started snorting and charged/chased him! Yes, we had a yak attack... lol. Thankfully, no one was hurt and the yaks were returned to their farm.

Took my son to Chincoteague back when he was a preschooler. The park ranger warned us not to put him on any of the ponies. When I said it would never have crossed my mind to do that, she said parents do it all the time. I was shocked that was something that needed to be said.

I have seen the same stupid actions from a number of park visitors every time we have been to yellowstone. A ranger told me they average about 15 buffalo gorings per year.

Check out her parents hightailing it the other way and leaving her. She’s fine, just a bit banged up. My father and I were at Old Faithful years ago and saw a touran try to put his young child on a resting bull bison in the inn parking lot. His wife was ready with the camera. Others intervened before tragedy. This has been going on forever just now everyone has a camera rolling video. A few years ago our local paper kept track on the front page. Bison 5.. Tourist 0

We see actions that could have bad outcomes every time we go to a national park - our surprise is that there aren't more fatalities and severe injuries.Grand Tetons and Yellowstone have been prime location for that. I'll fully admit to being far closer to a moose than advisable, but that was not deliberate. [S/he was in the bushes when I exited a portapotty rather loudly - I stumbled since it was on an angle - and snorted at me, but whether it had arrived while I was inside, or was there when I walked by the first time, I don't know.]
In the village at Grand Canyon, South Rim, I saw a 20-something young man trying to (apparently) pet a large female elk. He didn't seem to get that raising her hoof and stomping it was not an invitation to stay close. Then there are all the folks who feel compelled to step over barriers to get a closer look.

A couple of years ago while visiting Yellowstone we thought it would be a good idea to do it via bicycles. At the end of the one bicycle trail we encountered a herd of bison. A friendly truck driver allowed us to put our bikes aboard and took us to the main park road. A couples of miles later all vehicles were stopped by bison ahead and more were coming from behind weaving between the stopped cars. Again a pickup truck driver allowed to get into the bed of the truck and eventually took us to safety down the road. That cured any desire we had to bicycle through Yellowstone. Bison are big, ill tempered, and each one has a different personal space - Selfie takers beware!!!

Too bad they can't put a sniper in the tree line w/ a tranquilizer dart gun & a few 30 round mags & pick off the "hey y'all watch this, hold my beer" types as they exit the vehicle... blow the whistle on stupidity...
