Somehow I missed this thread until now. We just got back from Yellowstone last week so EVERYONE has been forwarding or asking me about this story. According to the article, this happened on or near the observation point trail at Old Faithful. I was on that trail so I know exactly where this is. It's not something you would "stay in your car" for as the nearest parking is several hundred yards away. But... as noted, they were within feet of the animal for a very long time... and some accounts even say they were petting it. Eventually it showed who was in charge. I'm glad the girl was OK, but this is just purely stupid. They tell you ALL over the park to stay back at least 75 feet from bison and 150 from bears and wolves. My brother had the best comment: "Well last year they went to Disney and had a picture with Mickey Mouse... so this year they wanted to have a picture with one of Yellowstone's famous characters"
