We camped at Stephen Foster state Park in Fargo last January. The weather was cool and pleasant and we got in an afternoon of kayaking. This is the west entrance to the Okefenokee Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, with a camp store, canoe rentals, and guided boat tours. There aren't any good, long hiking trails here because the park is not very big, but the nature trail goes out into the swamp about a quarter mile. The attraction is the water trails that go to Billy's Island and Minnie's Lake. The 66 camp sites include water and electric hookup and the bath houses have been renovated in recent years. Stephen Foster is a certified dark sky park and we were fortunate enough to time our trip when the new moon came up late. Fargo is the hometown of Pogo Possum and Albert Alligator.
