I have an odd situation that I noticed my last couple of trips. I am getting a little sway only when I go on the interstate at 60mph. It's weird I can drive 60-65 on a regular 2 lane highway with no problem. I can drive 55 on the interstate no problem. The only difference from prior trips is one of the two propane tanks is empty I added a bigger battery in front, and I have a 100watt solar panel that's stored on the couch just back of the trailer tires. I know even the smallest weight change can make a difference but I'm questioning if the sway is because of the tongue weight or something else judging by the intermittentness. Camper tires are only one season old. Now the Tow vehicle tires are in bad need of replacing. Everything else is the same. I do use a sway bar when I tow and sway stops almost the second I let off the gas. It's not a bad sway, but it is felt. I have failed to check the pressure of the tires but visually they look the same. I have a front trunk on my camper that is always very full. Sadly I do not know the true weight of my setup . I know I should so I have a better idea.

I think , since the only diffrence is the propane tanks, try adding some weight to the toung. You removed like 80 lbs minus the new battery weight. I would try that first.

Simple solution to just speed up to 65-70mph!![LOL]
Since it didnt happen prior to the weight change, I would start your search for the cause there.

Check your tire pressure, both camper and TV. I noticed when towing with the old Xterra that increasing the tire pressure on the TV rears about 5 psi above the door post setting made it feel much more stable towing. And uneven pressure in the trailer tires can cause one side to drag a little more than the other.

Check the tire pressure and if necessary inflate to rated pressure. One empty propane tank would reduce the tongue weight by 20 lbs. How much more does the new battery weigh? I don't think this is a tongue weight problem. Trailer tires are usually not balanced. Perhaps you hit the resonate frequency of the set up. ( the spot where it vibrates)

Good ideas, dont forget to add the tank weight in the propane tanks. So like another 17 lbs or so.

But if he had two full tanks and one is empty only the propane is gone, the tank is still there.

Yup, i read it wrong. Lol. I thought he removed the tankes for the battery. 20 lbs isnt going to make a difference.

If you can go 60-65 on two lane highways but nor the interstate, it may have more to do with the road itself. I know our interstates here sometimes have a different composition than the highways and that affects the vehicle's handling.

I don't think I could ever do that! Firefighters in my town have to work 24hr shifts... doubt that would be much fun but at least it's not a big city with lots of calls.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will double check the tire inflation on all tires my next trip if anything just to rule it out. It is possible it is the road itself, gosh knows there is always some sort of construction going on up here. I will also be filling the propane tanks before my next trip as well. The new battery weight is only about 5 pounds more than the old one so minor. Hopefully these steps solve the problem.

Youll be fine, im guessing tire pressure or what tomboasi said just the right speed at the right time.

Would it have anything to do with vehicles driving along side you on the interstate?
