I use a drill also to raise my roof but, it still seems hard to raise and you can hear the strain on the drill. Is this usual/are they always so hard to lift? I checked all the cables, etc. and lubricated.

Depends on the camper and the type of lift system it has. Back when we owned our 2000 Fleetwood Santa Fe I used a cordless 18 v DeWalt drill rated @ 450 in/lbs of torque to easily raise the roof which was also supporting the weight of an A/C unit. At the time a friend of mine owned a Camplite popup and even the Bosch corded drill I owned that was rated @ 767 in/lbs of torque would not lift that roof. Question is - what camper do you have?
