Some employers actually do vacation bids towards the end of the year, so some not all will know their vacation weeks prior to New Years Day and can plan and book things.. But you are correct, for the majority it is difficult.. this is one of the reasons why in Ontario trying to book anything during July and August is so hard.. Many people will book 3 weeks and then try and cancel or transfer the unwanted weeks later once tghey have gotten their vacation dates nailed down... If the penalty for doing this were stricter, or they adopted a cancelation policy similar to my work vacation cancellation policy (you book 2 weeks off and need to change it, you are cancelling both weeks, not just one) there would actually be more campsites open for reservation closer to the summer..

In Wisconsin we have several county parks with camping. Not sure about other states but it takes some perseverance to find them all on the internet. They are much more liberal with hookups than the SP's and are located in some pretty nice locations.

Tim FLA, Orchid, ScubaCamper, It’s a shame. We spent 11 years in Florida (our 90’s decade) and try to return to visit our very close friends every couple of years. We had planned to increase that with integrated camping, BUT that’s not working out so well. Upside? Our local campgrounds in the ArkLaTex are rarely so full.

Copper Falls a state park in WI near Mellon is pretty nice. We've been there many times and seems like its not all that busy. We've not camped there since its among the National Forest and we like those as well..
