My ford explorer has a digital key pad on the drivers door. So I keep extra keys inside the TV. use them when needed.

I used the magnet key box with my 99 Ford explorer when I did not have the remote keyless for it now that I have 2014 Explorer, the digital keypad is useful I even leave my wallet and keys inside when I camp. I also keep duplicates inside TV.

Generally, no. But sometimes we put the folding step up which locks when the handle is pushed in. The key in the battery box is just in case everything goes wrong.

The keypad is the biggest thing I miss after replacing my wife's Escape with a Sienna. I really can't believe that no other manufacturer has copied that feature. Ford has only been doing it for like 30 years now.
