I took my baby camping when he was a little over a week old. He actually slept so much better than he did at home.

I couldn't have done it if I hadn't of had so much help, though. My mom is the one that talked us into going (it was for a family reunion) and she promised that she would take care of all the cooking and help watch the other kiddos for me. It was actually very nice and relaxing!

A playpen or something similiar for the baby to nap/play in is a must. If you plan on letting baby sleep inside the PU while you are outside, then take along a baby monitor. Other than those two things (and of course other baby necessities; changes of clothes, dipes and wipes, etc.) and promises from DH or others that they will do most of the camping work, you shouldn't need anything more than your regular camping gear. This age is easy, it is when they start to get mobile that it becomes hard!

    Have fun!

We took our newborn camping as well. Thank God for playpens. I wasn't able to breastfeed, so we had formula with us, and he took it at room temp, so we just had water from home, and would mix a bottle as we needed it. Much easier than warming a bottle that is premade and been in the cooler, as we were tenting it. Also, if you don't have, Walmart or Toys R Us carries bugnets that fit over playpens and carseats, they are about $5. Get that, so that you don't have to worry about any biting insects chewing away at your babe. Good Luck and HAVE FUN!!!

My son was 3 months old when he went. We had a tent then. We have been going ever since. Porta-crib was what we brought. Then when we got the camper we just up put one of those side rail things you slip under the mattress and used the dinette bed till they got old enough not to fall out of the bunk. they are 5 and 6 now and thinks everyone goes camping they don't know anything else!! it's easier when they start out early!

I am glad to see all of these recommedations. I just found out I am 7 weeks pregnant and have been wondering how camping will be next year when we will be taking our baby with us. It will be about 4 months old about camping time.

    Are we camping yet???
