We though we would be smart and create our own long weekend...... we forgot that August 5th was the civic long weekend. DOH.

We were hoping to go to Bon Echo this weekend potentially leaving Thursday. Have any of you had luck getting a non-reservable site? What day/ time should we arrive to get a site?

    Thanks

Arrive at the Park of choice by 7 am.. In the summer the park offices open at 8 am.. Yes get there as early as possible.. Not sure how Bon Echo does their "non-res" sites.. Some parks have specific sites that are always non res, others do a % .. doesn't matter the breakdown (tent, trailer size, hydro, no hydro) once a % of the sites have been reserved all the rest what ever is remaining become non res..

Just out of curiosity, as I will be in Lake Superior Provincial Park that weekend, what’s the long weekend for?

You'll improve your chances of getting a site without a reservation if you're prepared to dry camp. Although there are some exceptions generally only about 1/3 rd of sites in the Ontario provincial park system are electric, the majority are still dry. I once reserved a dry site at Killbear as it was all that was available, arrived to claim it, and was offered an electric site that had opened up due to a last minute cancellation - it does happen!

I love Lake Superior, we were there last year for the August long weekend last year. If you have any questions feel free to ask!
