Blanco State Park is in the beautiful Texas Hill County and located within the town of Blanco itself. (no Walmart) The park is small (about 25 sites or so) and busy on summer weekends. The staff was very friendly. Most sites have some shade and covered picnic tables. The only activities within the park include swimming in the Blanco River and fishing. The main swimming area is near a dam in the river built by the CCC. A concrete "pool" at the base of the dam on the north side of the river provides plenty of fun for the kids. The river was at a nice level on the weekend we were there. The low water crossing used to get into the campground had water over it but it was passable. In drier months it would be a good idea to call the park and ask about the water level if you plan on swimming or tubing. The town of Blanco is nice. It has a historical courthouse that now serves as a visitor center. A good time to visit this park in addition to when the wildflowers are in bloom (a spectacular sight) is the second week of June during the Lavendar Festival on the courthouse square. That's when we visited and we found it was very convenient to park our vehichle in the day use area and take the short path from the state park through the small city park and right to the festival area. There were lots and lots of crafts and especially lavendar products. In addition, several of the nearby lavendar farms were open for tours. Not sure when we'll visit here again. If we do, I might try to get spot in Guadalupe SP instead and visit Blanco SP for the swimming.

We stayed a weekend in spots near the screen shelters and got to listen to the live music played at the resturant/bar across the river. I liked the swimming pool and the fishing but could have done without the highway noise.
