Had an opportunity to camp at Magnolia Ridge Park between Woodville and Jasper Texas on Hwy 190. It's a Corp of Engineers park and lies on the NW side of Steinhagen Lake and near Martin Dies, Jr. State Park. We found the park to be very clean and well kept. All the sites are lake front for the most part. There are 41 sites in all including W/E 30-50 amp sites and three or four have no water or electric. Some of the sites are reserved for walk up, but about half can be reserved online. We camped in site #25 which was fine except for the bright security light on the pole on the road. Site #26 we noticed is completely in the sun. The lake is more like a swamp, but the cypress and tupelo trees are nice. We didn't see any alligators, but they are known to be numerous in this lake. There is a kids fish pond for 15 year olds and under. The park stocks it in the spring with rainbow trout. Catfish and perch are are abundant and an occasional bass. Our son caught two perch. There are several hiking trails that we enjoyed and easy to ride on with bikes as well. The restrooms are clean, but note the ones by the fish pond and the northern end of the park are newer and in better shape than the restrooms on the southern end of the campground. Overall we thought the park was clean and well maintained. It suffered in hurricanes Rita and Ike, but after being closed for 4 years for repairs and cleanup it was well worth the trip. We would visit this park again.
