Somebody said something the other day on the news that I hope hit home with a lot of folks. "Better to be six feet apart than six feet under". Just something to think about.....

The somebody was the Michigan Governor. And I would take the thought with a grain of salt.

Michigan Governor banned the purchase of garden tools, garden seeds, paint... And she banned hiking, biking, fishing... However (and bizarrely) she endorsed and promoted the purchase of alcohol, pot and lotto tickets.

And if you do not follow the Michigan Governor's rules, you are a "nazi" (her words) and stupid.

I recommend taking care of yourself, take responsibility for yourself, and don't rely on a nanny state.

Or, if you drink the Michigan Governor's brand of kool-aid, then do as your told. And good luck with that... at least it's not your fault (or responsibility) and you won't be a "nazi" in the eyes of the Michigan Governor [:D]

I did not mean to offend (sometimes tone doesn't always come across as we intend), but not for nothing there are a lot of people who are not doing what they need to do to keep from spreading this disease.

    Hey Fourhallatts, no offense taken.

I understand your concern. And my life view, I have little to no control over other's choices. I can control and take care of me and help out as best I can.

My interest is living life, camping, exploring, and doing that in a responsible way.

My philosophy of I'm responsible for me - I'm interested in threads like this, for the conversation of "what's the next steps to get out camping."

The process of "flattening the curve" which was 2 weeks, then 4 weeks, and now 2 months - is done.

It's well past time of instinctual "fight or flight" and time for reasoning.

I would offer, we all should take a breath, and get back to life.

    Be safe, be well :)

Edited for the usual, spelling :)

This is some nasty stuff. In early March We had around 100 cases in the USA, the president said we would not see more than a few more cases.. Now we're seeing 750,000 plus cases 45 days later, where 5 out 100 people die (5%). Many survivors are finding they have scarred lungs and reduced lung capacity. I sure would not want to live the rest of my life if I was 35, losing my breath going up a flight of stairs.

If there is no pink pill found, we will see this for at least a year. If we don't follow good safe practices, we will see the majority of the US population infected.

In our state 75% of the deaths are in the age group of 60 years old or older.

And the Flu kills how man people a year?...And we have a vaccine for that.
Nobody i know denies it is real...However many question the response to it.

Sadly this is setting a precedent for what will be the normal from here on out.

What until this fall and winter( Assuming Covid 19 is is the rear view mirror) when the cold and flu season breaks out...
Everyone will be wearing masks and running to the store in panic mode people will be staying home from work in masses.

And the media will be rolling out more famous people telling us common folk how we should live and not go to work
while they sit on their piles of money and act like we are all in this together.

Data for the United States of America:
    • 330,000,000 population.
    • 40,724 deaths from COVID-19.
    • NO ACCURATE data on number of COVID-19 infected.

0.01% of the U.S.A. population has died from COVID-19.

Or 99.99% of the U.S.A. population has not died from COVID-19, a disease that has been spreading in our country for 3 months.

There is an interesting study of COVID-19 in Italy. For multiply weeks, a small town is testing for COVID-19. No symptoms. To the testers surprise, most of the small town tested positive for COVID-19. Multiple weeks later, no symptoms. If this data holds, it supports CDC assertion that 80% of folks exposed to COVID-19 will have little to no effects from the disease.

    Be well :)

Edit: Adjusted to precise calculation of U.S. dead due to COVID-19.

I believe the numbers actually work out to 0.013% or roughly 1/100th of 1% of the population.

Here's my calculation formula to determine percentage:
    1. 40,724/330,000,000 = N/100
    2. 330,000,000 x N = 40,724 x 100
    3. 330,000,000 x N = 4,072,400
    4. N = 4,072,400 (divided by) 330,000,000
    5. N = 0.012
    6. 1.2% should be 0.01%

Any math teachers out there? Can you verify my old math formula from the early 1980's :)

Edit: gett'n my math correct :)

    I don't think 6 is needed, that includes 100 twice!!! 0.012%

    1% of 330 million is 3.3 million

    Okay :)

Trying to recall this from high school math. We were taught (given this formula) that 0.012 represents 1.2% in written language. Basically, you shift two decimal spaces to the right to turn the math equation into a written (or spoken) percentage.

I think we nick-named this equation the "crossing equation" because you are determining the percentage of a fraction by n/100.

Example: 5/7 (what percentage of 7 is 5)
    5/7 = n/100
You "cross" it by setting up the formula: 7n = 5(100)
    7n = 500
    n = 71.43
    71%

    And I think I see what I did :)

So you all are correct, the calculation should be...
    40,724/330,000,000 = n/100
    330,000,000n = 40,724(100)
    330,000,000n = 4,072,400
    n = 0.01
    0.01%

    5/7 = 0.7142 or 71% doit in one line 5/7 *100 =71%
    40,000/330,000,000 = 0.00012 or 000.012%
