Kiptopke VA State park, we have been going there for years. It's located on the Eastern Shore of VA across the Chesapke Bay Bridge in Cape Charles. Great place has a beach, boat ramp, Bird watching, hiking trails, and a fishing pier. Also has a campstore, laundry and clean bath houses. We have been using a tent for those years. But now finally just bought our fist PU so here we come this weekend.
    HAPPY CAMPING ALL!

I have been thinking about going to Kiptopeke some time this fall. How much is the toll on the cbbt now? I haven't been over there in about 15 years.

Just got back from kiptopeke and is a nice Campground. During setup Digger(Carl) came by. It was Really nice to meet Carl.(sorry Carl did not come by Saturday wife and sis-law wanted to go the store and swim.)Back to Kip Sites are close to each other and quite few are in the open but some in the shade. Got sewer and cable at each site. The bathhouse was ok. It needs to add a hook and seat in the shower stalls. They were cleaned pretty often. If you camp in the middle sites expect people to just walk right through camp to the bath house. Had a guy and his daughter walk right through our kitchen when we where cooking. Had Airdown(Tommy and wife) camping down from us. So went down and met them. Great people! The beach area was very nice. Was nice can wade out in the bay. Carl told me he say dolphins but we saw none. The pier is nice. It is a nice campground a nice place to maybe have a rally at.

Very nice meeting you also. We had a very nice weekend, alot of much needed R&R and 1 on 1 time with the wife and kids. One note to self "leave Blackberry at home next trip". I did get a few system shake downs done. Refridgerator, gets cold and freezes ice, water heater makes hot water and AC cools nicely. Not bad for original equipment on an 87 model pup. We took the dog this trip so we spent our time on the dog beach. Took a mile walk up the beach and it is a shell hunters dream, very different from the public beach. All in all another great weekend.

We made it to Kiptopeke and back in one piece. Nice quiet SP....seemed like most campers were there to fish, so they were gone all day and crashed early at night. The park was quiet to begin with....and dead quiet by 9:30 PM.

The restrooms/showers were decent; never crowded, good hot water and pretty clean. The shower areas need to be mopped on a more regular basis.

The kids had fun at the calm beach...digging in the sand or playing in the shallow water of the Chesapeake Bay. They also got to go fishing at the large pier the park has.

There were several well groomed trails/boardwalks that my son and I got to explore. We encountered numerous forms of plant and wildlife.....my son loved seeing two deer (does) about 30 feet from us.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. The campstore is small and has the "very basics" plus a few souvenieir items (the norm). There is a Food Lion (grocery store) and a Dollar General about 5 miles north of the park.

Sites are pretty good sized and provide ample room to spread out. I think all have a picnic table and fire-ring (with adjustable grate for cooking). E/W or E/W/S is available. Shade is one thing they are currently lacking, some sites are shaded (ours) and it is first come first serve to the sites. However, we were informed that we could move sites if a better one came open. We didn't need to move. Also, the check-in time is some what liberal. If you have reservations and arrive a bit early...if sites are available...you can get in.

For my first experience staying at a State Park, Kiptopeke would rank 9.5 on a scale of 1-10

Glad to hear you had a good time Binky! If Kiptopeke was your first SP experience and you gave it 9.5, I can't wait to hear what you think about some of the others...especially Chippokes. No sewer or cable at those....but sites are much nicer and spread apart....the sites at Kiptopeke have the feeling of a KOA turned SP....IMHO, of course.
