Me and DW went to visit the DD at college today in Farmville, hung out a little while then decided to go scope out James River State park which is about 45 miles north west of Farmville. We also on the way home scoped out Holiday State & Twin Lakes State parks.

As soon as we pulled into James River the fever hit me and it hit me hard. I said to the DW we should of made the trip to James River Friday night and shot down to DD college to visit and then go back to CG, oh well.

The foliage on the trees was out of this world, beautiful drive. The other two parks were nice and now we are at home sitting in front of the Television instead of a camp fire.

I knew you would like it too!!

If it were closer to home it would be my new favorite SP.

Tim...That is so funny, we went to check out JRSP today too....we were there between about 4:30 & 5:45. I didn't see a bad site at all in the Red Oak loop....and it seems that they may be constructing a new loop closer to the entrance gate.....

If you'd like to see my recon pics (pics of every site)...check 'em out here

Digger - we were there around 2pm on Saturday. So we only missed you by a few hours.
They do have some very nice sites. We picked out a few - 6,8,14,16,18,31. These seemed like they had more shade than the others. We are thinking the end of May and trying to stay as cool as possible.

There many spaces empty when we were there but noticed that a lot of the sites did have names assigned to them.

Tim, good choices. I'd like 31 if I had a friend staying in 30. And I really liked 27...a bit smaller than some, but a bit more removed.

Peter, The folks in the Pup were friendly enough, but being a bit pressed for time, I said 'Hi' from the road, took their pic, and kept on rolling...

Digger - We did notice that a few of the sites did look removed from the others. Hopefully we will have enough pups that we will occupy the entire CG so no one will feel alone.

Did you notice how narrow the road is? We encountered several vehicles coming toward us and both had to pull to the side in order to pass. I told the DH that is going to be a lot of fun when pulling the pup.

Forgot to mention.. When we pulled in at the guard shack to grab some park info they had a sign on the bulletin board saying that bears had been spotted in the park.
I (the DW) thought that was kind of neat. It is a reminder that you are only a guest in their wilderness.

Ha! I have to wonder if the folks there are the CG thought something strange was going on to have 2 different vehicles come creeping through checking out sites - and taking photos? We drove through 2 times. And we also checked out the primitive tent sites. So glad we have a pup.

I was in site 6 last month when I was there. Our group had the entire inside of the loop booked up. It was nice in the mornings to hear the cows mooooing from off in the valley somewhere, never did find them though. There was a nice misty fog early in the morning too.
