I shop in the Asian markets around here all the time. Pre-COVID I'd say that 75% of the shoppers in there were masked from Oct to March.
They took SARS on the chin (Chin, get it?) and learned mitigation techniques before we did.
It gets COLD up here in Winter. My covid masks are more comfortable for a walk outside on a windy winter's day than a heavy ski mask would be.... I guarantee each one of my winter jackets will have a mask in the pocket

Lol, we said the same thing. At work we will all probably have them on in the winter. Keeps the face nice and warm.

Sure hope so. I have about 200 guys in India reporting to me, and getting the daily "casualty report" is sobering.

We open here based on how many people are vaccinated, so it matters. We are now putting pressure on those who aren't sure because "the sooner we get to 75%, the sooner we can reopen"

Peer pressure works

THIS is the theme. Medicine via media pressure first. Peer pressure second. Maybe honesty and transparency and be the third approach…?

There is a certain amount of the population that won’t bite until they understand the facts from a reputable source - should there be any of those left after all of the contradictions.

With US Health privacy laws as they are, can anyone actually be required to provide proof of vaccination? Public schools “request” it but don’t actually “require” it as far as I understand.

That's interesting. I hadn't considered that there might be an issue there due to legal differences.

We have the ability to insist on proof of vaccine before kids go to school, and they have already rolled out a QR code type thing that queries the system and returns back little more than Name, Vaccine, and Date of Vaccine. Nothing that would be considered (by Canadian standards) confidential.

I just got back from doctor in Iowa...Nothing has changed there yet...Temp check and mask at door and hand sanitizer.
My vaccine card was of no interest to them at the door... However the nurse made a copy of it once I was in the room.
So my guess is it being a doctors office is the reason they are still on guard.
I still haven't been to a place yet where the mask signs have been took down.(Just the normal places I visit a lot)
My understanding in Nebraska is the mandate is over but businesses can still require them if they wish.
Personally I am not seeing much change yet but hopefully soon we are back to normal or some sort of it anyway.

Lmao...wife saw this on tv a few minutes ago & yelled for me to check it out; some residents in Michigan are identifying as being vaxxed...sorry, but if you're that insecure & worried people might wonder if you got a shot, then stay at home, you'll draw a crap load more unwanted attention wearing this...

If by "STILL AROUND" you mean in secure laboratories undergoing GoF research, well, yeah.

https://1918flupandemic.com/sequencing-the-genome

Remember that my family made the documentary.

Um, just because the DNA has been sequenced does not mean the virus no longer exists in nature. Genomes have been sequenced for many organisms which still exist in nature.

Also, just because your family "made the documentary" doesn't mean you know much about it.

I don’t expect people in other countries to fully understand this but here in the USA we have a Constitution. This document does not give us rights but limits our government in what they can do. We have certain freedoms we are born with and can’t be taken away even in a Pandemic. I’ve been telling people from the start when we locked down for 3 weeks, I was worried our govt would start grabbing power it wasn’t meant to have in the name of keeping people safe(looks like I was right). That is one reason why I find the idea of a mask mandate and vaccination cards repugnant. Now I wear a mask every day, not because it’s required but because it makes sense.it’s my choice. My wife and I won’t be getting vaccinated. My wife because of all her allergies to medication and her multiple health problems she doesn’t want to take a chance. ( no studies have been done on if the vaccine is safe for people with her health problem). I’m not because no studies have been done on long term effects.besides my wife asked me not to get it. Now every time someone brings up not getting the vaccine because they are unsure of the safety someone posts “ I got it, My wife got it, my cousins dog best friends owner got and only had mild side effects” let me make this clear We are worried about 5,10-20 yrs down the rd. There has been No studies, there cannot have been it hasn’t been out long enough. And I don’t believe anyone who says it’s perfectly safe, I hear too many horror stories that the govt and drug companies ( who have a stake in this) are quick to dismiss. I understand some of these are not the vaccines fault but I think they deserve a better study and explanation then what they are telling us.I know taking any vaccine comes with a risk. You have to weigh the benefits from the risk and decide if it’s worth taking. And frankly all I here from the pro vaccine people is “Just get it, stop being selfish” . I will get it when I feel I know enough to feel safe getting it. And not any amount of bullying from the pro vaccine ppl, the government or the press will change my mind. *Rant out*

edit: it doesn’t help that the government gave the pharmaceutical companies ( I kinda understand this) and themselves freedom from liability. If it’s so safe what do they need protection from. ( I hear black helicopters)

I seen a local news story last night with a gal fully vaccinated who still is going to
wear a mask and feels everyone should still be masked up and she doesn't trust
anybody who says they are vaccinated and not wearing a mask.
So in her eyes if you don't wear a mask you are the devil.
Do you suppose she's the only one who thinks that way?

LOL..............................NO

I spend most of the day in and around Pittsburgh, its a different world there compared to the rural county where I live 50 miles or so away from the city.
I see constantly see folks, the vast majority of them, masked up in the city while walking alone, jogging alone, driving in their car alone, etc.
I knew a few folks who died of Covid, or most likely "died with Covid", but the difference in how folks reacted to this from day one between different areas or regions amazes me. A lot of it is the political leanings of the area/region IMO.

We had the 2nd lowest death and infection rates in the entire state in our county, despite the fact that a lot of county residents commute daily to Pittsburgh/Allegheny County where Covid apparently is transmitted airborne across great distances or is somehow transmitted via sunlight or is in the water supply.

BTW our backwater podunk county also led the state of PA in vaccine logistics / distribution by a longshot, Imagine that.

I totally understand. Some widely prescribed drugs scare me.

Several years ago a pair of scientists from a Big Pharma Company trained here; they made a statin, probably the most ubiquitous and most prescribed med in the world. It was "pizza day" and they asked me to order them a special pie, no cheese, extra sauce, all the veggies. I said, "oh, why is that?" And they replied, "because we never want to have to take anything we make..."
I was taking that med. Not anymore. I started doing what they did.

But that's a different sort of drug with different effects. I'm perfectly okay with the mRNA vax's, mostly because of input from CDC people I know, people at the Little Pharma labs that have trained here as well.

Extra sauce i understand. But no cheese.. blasphemy. I know and I agree dairy products bad. Bit pizza with no cheese......
I quit everything that contains cholesterol. My genes just didn't get along with it at all. Having your cardiologist hand you a card for the local hospice is fantastic motivator --- this was back in 2012.
You get over the cheese thing. Living is worth it.
