Hello everyone! I'm the fairly new owner of a 1996 Starcraft Satellite 1224 (had it for 16 months). We don't use it as much as I'd like but definitely enjoy taking the kids out and just getting away. We live in the suburbs of Chicago and I'm the father of 4; husband of 1. Got into the pup world in the first place because it's something I can pull behind my Town and Country and didn't have to get a truck. I've done nothing to my pup (which we affectionately call the Starship). I'm often jealous of all the upgrades and renovations I see but I don't have the time. So, we pull it as is and just enjoy being outside the camper more than being inside. I look forward to learning from everyone.
Welcome from Dukes Fl., you did not give the kids ages, but give each a task to do and do not forget to let them be kids.
Welcome from northern Virginia. My little side kick camped with us since she was 2 and now she is 16. Now her friends and cheerleading is more important for her now but I know she enjoys camping still she just may roll her eyes more.
Hello and welcome from Hampshire UK, don't get jealous there are more things to go wrong the more you have in a pup
Andy034, you can do as much as you want to a unit and it's still a camping unit, like a house life not paint make it a home! So if you, your husband and kids are using it and enjoying it that's what counts! Live life and enjoy the little moments. Hello and Welcome from central PA!
Greetings! Welcome to the forum from Midway USA. Take those kids camping often. You'll make memories that will last a lifetime. Whatever it is that's taking up all your time will still be there. You only have a short time with your kids. Before you know it they'll be having kids of their own. Ask me how I know.
I understand busy and my one recommendation to you is that if you don't plan it, it won't happen. Other things just get in the way. You can go a lot of directions from Chicago and there is a lot of great things to see out there in the US. So take the time to plan some longer trips and see the sights in the US.
Don't do what my wife and I did for the first few years and make decisions based on the weather mans predictions. After far too many nice weekends spent at home we decided to just make our reservations and go. Did we spend a few rainy weekends inside? Sure but our girls still enjoyed it and we still would take hikes and walk the campgrounds and we still had fun. But the end result was we were camping and not looking out the front window thinking we should have gone! Just plan and go!
