I work in IT as a Systems Administrator. It's a software company, and my job is to support environmental issues with the software clients may be experiencing (config file settings, install errors, hardware compatibility, and so on). Basically, the programmers take care of bugs in the code, and we take care of just about all the other problems, except the client's network itself.

I'm from the suburbs of the Motor City, so I am naturally in the automotive business. I work in sales for a tier 2 harness supplier dealing mainly with Japanese OEMs. In previous positions, I've worked with a silicone keypad company, and with an interiors company.

Essentially I work with Excel all day.

I work as a CAD/CAM operator & draftsman for a moulding & millwork company....I draw up moulding profiles & window parts, then program wire EDMs to cut & recondition the moulder knives that are used to manufacture said parts. Been doing this for about 20 years or thereabouts.

I am an Estimator/Project manager for a structural steel contractor in Northern Nevada. I read plans, taking of the materials pertinent to our work and give pricing to General Contractors. After I get a job I sign contracts, produce shop drawings and/or have outside detailers produce shop drawings, order materials, schedule work and do a lot of problem solving.

Self-employed Architect (licensed 37 years) and farmer (viticulturist - cabernet franc - for the past 16 years). Trying to retire from both but not doing a good job of getting that done - too many good clients (and friends) and farming gets into your blood ("nothing runs like a Deere"). Schools, hospitals, offices, banks, homes, & wine...it's been a great ride.

Currently unemployed. My position was "eliminated" after 4 6 years with the same company. Submitting applications but not getting responses. At 63, I'm not surprised by this. Just heading to retirement sooner than I thought I would!

I don't know if I posted or not I don't think so, so here goes I started out as a bag-boy in a grocery store progressing through ranks as a store manager I got so I hated it not the customers but 2 unions and their continueing stirring my employees up. Some one has to be boss right? I kept telling them better knock it off and get serious about taking care of customers and the business. One day it finally happened here comes the co. brass closing the store in 2 weeks not losing money any more.

So I went into the wholesale produce grocery business no money to be there as a commission sales person after awhile I went to work for a company in Chicago a world leader they treated their salesmen terrible the old case if you made more than their exectives everyone was mad. So I moved on to owning my own company doing the same things I did that for 35 years so many challenges starting a small business but great rewards too!

Finally in 2010 I retired wife kept teaching school she has now retired and getting into camping big-time. We love our life we love not having to get up at 5am to get ready to hit it. We earned all we have we cannot spend all we have coming in but we lived poor to die rich! We are almost full time trouters here in Mo. life is good!

I don't understand how companies can do this just because you were in one dept. didn't mean you couldn't do something else. Smart people adjust but companies like this think they are pulling something!
