Technical writer (official job title is "Senior Professional Content Developer"). I'm ankle-deep head-first in our department's infrastructure, and our group spans half the globe—US west coast to India, with a lot of people in between. I'm about four months short of 20 years at this place, in which time it went from a joint venture/almost startup to pretty darn big. Our camping trips should help me to depressurize, burn off some of that accumulated vacation time, and (of course) get some family bonding time in.

And I'm 1 billion and 2. IT Network Consultant for a small IT consulting firm.

Apparently we IT folks like to camp. Makes sense, I guess. I know for me, personally, I love going anywhere that I'll have spotty (or worse) cell phone reception. Guarantees no emails/calls/texts!

I teach online, IT to healthcare professionals. Yes, getting away from the Screens and sometimes the phones is definitely an allure of camping.

Electrical Designer for an electrical engineering firm. Used to work for an electrical contractor (18 years) doing the same thing, but in a completely different market (industrial (cold storage, wineries, etc.) and specialty commercial (cable company facilities)). Now I do 95% public works and 90% of that is education.

Retired USAF fighter mechanic at 40, did nearly a decade as a chemical technician/salesman till the industry nearly died back in 2003, worked for Home Depot for about the same as a manager, then back to my roots as a mechanic, working on powersports toys till I hit 59. I'm into to the full retired mode now at 61.

    It's travelin' time!

mid-level miss-managing bureaucrat at a quasi-governmental agency (I used to be an engineer a long time ago). My Dad was a lighthouse keeper when I was born, Mom was the daughter of a lighthouse keeper (both in New Zealand). I was born and married to my Calif Gal in Christchurch, which has been in the news lately.

    I'm a "fixer"

Consultant who came up mostly through project and program management, at least half of the contracts I get are for those skill sets but at a different title. Mostly in IT, but the business transformation side more than the "computer side"

What does that button over there do?

A previous employer was a private pilot and I had a bit of time in the right seat in an Aerostar 600A.

With the headset on it wasn't too bad, plus the pilot/copilot sit in front of the props plus it had a psychrophaser which mellowed it out. You get a nice reflection in the spinner and it gives a visual check the front gear is down. Now, sitting in the back. EEK. That thing was loud. He once got a nasty gram in the mail from Torrence Airport.

Both of us claim the midwest as our roots, so like to camp to get away from the crowds and congestion of the east coast.
