Road pie (silly family tradition), siblings teasing each other, tiny bits of nature, being goofballs, exploring awesome spaces, hammock time, watching sunrises over the lake without even having to roll over.

Kids, dogs and adults out in the woods and having fun with no screen staring. That's what we like to see. [8D]

Thanks. They are the only kind of dog for us. She is our third. We have another older rescue golden who doesn't travel with us. This one is our puppy (she is 2 now) and she's a great traveller.

That one was a Strawberry Rhubarb pie we bought at the farmers market in Revelstoke. So good! It was just one of many road pies. It was an awesome trip, probably our last big holiday together like that.
We packed a tonne into the trip. The year before we did the East coast and the year before that we did Quebec. We weren't able to do big trips like that before and I wish we had because there is something about that kind of road trip that cements a family.

Earl Rowe Provincial Park in Alliston Ontario. Our first trip in our pop up close to home just incase! but all went well. Heading on our 3rd trip this Canada Day long weekend to the Elora Gorge. These pictures of the gorge from their website sold me. Renting a canoe and
paddling through the gorge is why we are going. Can't wait

Just fyi the top picture is actually the Quarry - which is down the road in a separate park area. It's a swimming hole and not really a place to paddle (don't want you to be disappointed). It's basically just a giant pothole and also is VERY busy. You'll need to line up early in the morning to get in.
The water levels are falling in the river currently which may mean it's not a great place for canoeing unless we get some significant rain tomorrow. If the water is too low I highly recommend Rockwood (another GRCA park) for a paddle. It's small - you can paddle around the whole thing in about 30 minutes, but it's beautiful and has the same cliffs as the gorge. It's also got lots of potholes which make for fun little crevices to canoe around and through. There is a resident family of Great Blue Herons and we're pretty sure they pay one to stand by the ruins and waterfall for tourists. We've also spotted beavers, snapping turtles and lots of cliff swallows which build their mud nests on the sides of the cliffs and caves.
They have canoes to rent there as well as paddle boats. It's about 25 minutes from the Gorge.
Rockwood also runs really great kids interpretive programs and has an old mini golf course and a nice beach.

That morning there was another little girl -- probably 4 or 5 -- that played in the sand for a couple hours all by herself.

I have teens but I remember when they were younger I would marvel at what would keep them entertained. We had a great playroom with lego and building blocks and a play kitchen and a train set, and playmobile. Our backyard had a sandbox, trampoline (still does) tree house, swing, badminton, basketball net on the driveway, bikes, rollerblades etc.
And they would complain there was nothing to do. But we would go camping or to the cottage and they would be completely engaged with nothing more than sticks, pebbles, sand, and water (and maybe some string if they were lucky). And they hardly ever fought.
    it's the power of nature

Here is a few photos during our last outing.. I'd call them "kids are us" with nieces and nephews. Some dogs just don't get no kid time.:grin::grin::grin:

I should say they were taken near Ely MN.
