What just happened with my trailer lights?

    Pup: 93 Jayco Jay Series
Former TV: 2010 Ford Escape (factory equipped tow package)
New TV: 2016 Ford Escape (factory equipped tow package)

Both TVs have 4 wire plug. All lights work normally on the 2010, but that vehicle has gone to the resting place of retired vehicles. Plug the Pup into the 2016 and now when I hit the brakes all the parking lights come on, and when the parking lights are on the brake lights are dim.

As a test I plugged the Pup in to my father-in-law's truck and everything works as normal.

    Any ideas?

The common denominator is the 2016. You can buy a little tester for the 4wire plug that will tell you the issue.

Try hitching up the trailer and new vehicle as normal and connect a booster cable to a rust free point on the trailer tongue and the other end to a clean spot on the tow vehicle, could be a ground problem between the trailer and vehicle.

Sounds like you are probably missing a true ground wire path from TV to PUP via your electrical connector - based on a similar experience.

A chassis ground path though the hitch is not OK

Tracked it down - it was the converter box in the wiring kit that was previously installed. Easy fix. Thanks everyone.
