Maryland State Parks charges a reservation fee of $4.56 a night. However, if you just show up without reservations, $4.51 a night transaction fee will be charged. Also, a daily entrance fee is assessed. I have never heard of such a fee for walk ins. There is 1 transaction, so why a daily fee? Has anyone ever encountered such an unusual fee schedule?

In any event, I will not be camping there next Sunday. Just noticed there is a 2 night minimum from Memorial Day to Labor Day, at least for Susquehanna State Park. My work schedule will not allow 2 nights.

They'll charge it as long as folks will pay it.

I learned, from further reading, that walk ins are considered to be making reservations at the park. My head just exploded, and by the grace of God, I was able to complete this post.

In Kansas, the State Parks require a five-day minimum on the major holidays -- Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day. That's on top of a $5 per day entrance fee, but you can get a season pass for $15 with your car registration renewal.

I can see having a 2 day minimum for weekends. I ended up making a reservation at another Maryland State Park that did not have a 2 night minimum except on weekends.
