Getting tired of staying indoors...but all the camping grounds are 'closed'...at least the facilities are. We are in central Indiana, any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Can't go to my backyard as it is fenced, and already camped on my driveway...ran out of options folks! How about a rest area by an interstate? What do you think? Are the bathroom facilities there closed too?

I'm in central Indiana too. I live in Morgan County. We're wondering the same thing too.

Sadly, unless you can boondock somewhere you really dont have any options. The country is basically shut down and travel is either frowned up or banned. You're just just going to have to deal with it like the rest of the country.

I got an email from KOA the other day stating that the vast majority of their campgrounds are still open.

Edit: I tried to make a reservation for this weekend at the Greenfield KOA outside of Indy, and it let me do everything up up to putting in my credit card, so it looks like they are open for business.

If you are a member of a club like the Elks you may be able to camp in their parking lot. I see a couple campers a year at the local Elks lodge. Would be nice and quiet since they are not open now.

Echo your driveway/backyard. I know it is tough, we are locked down too. They closed campgrounds for a reason - to help inhibit the spread of the virus. Heading out to go camp on your own creates risk that can be avoided. Any interaction on the way there and back is a potential transmission point. Gas stations, the extra grocery run for supplies, etc. Austin and Houston are starting to issue orders mandating masks in public, etc. If current mortality rates continue we are looking at 30k dead by mid next week I think. If you have an issue while camping (mechanical breakdown, injury, etc) that pulls resources away to deal with your issue, plus adding yet another potential transmission point. Not to mention when others see people breaking out like that, it empowers them to do the same. Before you know it there are way more people outside, interacting and traveling when not needed, and we get another outbreak or further extend the current bloom.

Our scout troops are all doing virtual camping this weekend. Zoom meetings, video of a campfire, pillow forts (not everyone has their own personal tent or access to a yard), etc. It is tough on everyone, but we will get through this, hopefully sooner rather than later. My wife's grandmother is still with us and lives alone (in her 90s now), and she is deathly afraid that something will happen and she won't get the chance to see her again. Our son is immune compromised, and my wife doesn't have the strongest immune system either, so neither have really left the house other than an odd supply run with me, and even then it was curbside pickup only.

Some KOAs are open, but a lot of them are also self limiting to healthcare/essential workers who need a place to stay/relocate, etc. Others have closed for the season. The effects of this shutdown will be long and wide ranging I fear.

Hoping someone gets a handle on a vaccine, and that we don't get a mutated/upgraded version next year. I'll be ready to head out when things settle back down, but unfortunately so will the rest of the country, and I can only imagine how crowded and crazy it will be then.

    Stay safe and healthy.

This is all I see when I hear “virtual camping”.

    Arruba,
I think you and I have the same game cart. Sadly, mine has sat unused for several years.
