Title says it all. Local Ace and HD don't carry it.
Any paint store?
I got it at Lowes
Where are you?
True Value in Ct carries it. It maybe outlawed in your state. Maybe you could try Acetone.
I got mine at HD a while ago, but it doesn't show up on their web site now.
I live in Colorado. I asked on my local community fb page and a painter says there state just pulled it off the shelf. I'm going to look into it and see what I can find.
Any other solvent work like mek to melt plastic?
its replacement is at my HD under the label "Painters Solvent"
Can't get it in California...it's been years.
Did a little digging. My home state of Colorado passed a law limiting VOC's. It took effect the beginning of last month.
Watched a few YT videos. Looks like Acetone works just as good as dissolving ABS.
Acetone will work but not just as good.
Just curious, what do you mean not as good? I have read a lot in the past day and watched plenty of videos, acetone will completely dissolve abs. The 3d printer guys prefer acetone for dissolving abs, seems to work just fine and isnt as "nasty" as mek. Not really trying to argue, Im just curious by what you meant, thats all.
You used the phrase "just as good" In my opinion, for my purposes it not "just" as good. Like I said it works. I don't like the consistency and workability when acetone is used. It also dries with different characteristics because of the volatility. By all means use it, it works. I prefer MEK.
Where are you in Colorado? I have a mostly full can from doing repairs on our 2003.5 Cheyenne (very successfully, I might add), but we've upgraded to a 2006 with no ABS and I don't need it any longer. We're in Fort Collins.
Im in Montrose, over on the Western Slope. I think I found a decent workaround. I will be using Acetone and abs pellets.....or if you look at the SDS for ABS glue its Abs, MEK, and Acetone, might be easier just to use the premade glue.
That would be a long drive! Glad you found something that will work. Guess I'll just leave my MEK on the shelf a while longer.
Probably another great example of some government wackjob "keeping you safe".
It's $31.00 a gallon at West Marine. (Linky) The only stipulations are it may take 2 to 3 weeks to get and it can not be shipped to California where a Tootsie Pop will kill you.
Is the OP in California? Have it shipped to someone else who boxes it up real good and ships it to you. I would do it. Oh the legality. It let me add it to my cart and start the checkout process but I did not go through with the payment info.
More than one way to skin a cat or lay your hands on some MEK.
MEK, PD680, trichloroethylene, how I miss you.
I just ordered it from West Marine.
I live in MA and can't find it on store shelves here.
So we'll see if it actually arrives.
