Where to park camper

Take your camper to a school parking lot on the weekend. Barrow a couple of them orange cones from a Soccer Mom. And learn to back it up. Remember you turn the tow vehicle the opposite direction you want your camper to go. Or put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel of your Tow Vehicle. Move your hand and arm in the direction you want the trailer to go. Practice makes perfect. If the trailer starts to turn too much. Go fwd and start over.

GPS? Don’t use one, don’t trust them. I look at a map to plan the trip, use Google Earth to check roads, fuel stations, parking, etc... enter everything in to a spreadsheet. Print The spreadsheet and head out. If I have to go off my planned route, I pull over and review map and Google Earth.

People who rely on GPS end up on shows on The Weather Channel. Some survive, some don't.

Call the local Chamber of Commerce. I have always gotten great advice from them. It isn't always what I wanted to hear.

I suspect those who would follow GPS instructions telling them to drive onto a washed out road would have done the same following a paper map. And, I agree. Those folks should not be using a GPS. Or driving a motor vehicle for that matter. ;)

We went to a big parking lot, it wasn't quite as horrible as I thought it might be, my first ever attempt, but not great either. Were just going to have to keep on trying. Thanks for your advice.

Do your best to find a spot to be able to pull the whole thing in. Most times it requires a bit of a walk to get to what you wanted to see if it's in town. Thankfully, there's usually someone gracious enough to let you use some space to park. If not, mentally prepare to hoof it or skip it altogether.

I don't know... In my rather facetious example of someone allowing a GPS to talk them into crossing a flooded and washed out road, that sounds more like a "hold my beer, watch this!' situation rather than an 'oops'. ;)

Regardless, this is not a serious conversation and has nothing to do with the topic, so back to our regularly scheduled programming...

The ones that get me are the ones that drive around barriers and drive off the washed out bridge, hopefully getting a Darwin award.
