I'd be interested in going...January or February would work better for me only because December gets very busy before Christmas. I too am curious to see how camping in a PUP goes with my heater! I would like to try French Creek, I've been told it's nice. I'm open to other options though.

Yes, Dec is pretty busy with family visiting and stuff. I forgot about that. I'm still new to married life and forgot about visiting the in-laws. French Creek is pretty nice and does offer lots to do and only 30 min from my house.

I have been looking, it doesn't look like there are many options for State Parks in the winter. French Creek seems to be the best. How does Martin Luther King Jr weekend sound? It is a 3 day weekend for those who want to camp for 3 days. Friday January 14 Saturday 15, Sunday 16, Monday MLK day 17. Loop C is open, it has the pet sites for our 4 legged campers [DOG] [CAT]

I was checking out French Creek and the cabins for MLK weekend. The 3 small cabins are available that are right by loop C for those who want to come but don't want to do it in the popup. At $43 per night, that is cheaper than some private campgrounds.

8 of the modern cabins are open (3 have a note that there may be exterior work being done during the day). They are a short drive away. $107 per night for 2 nights and then $65 for Sunday night.

I was thinking, we could have a "Christmas in January" Theme and instead of a pot luck dinner, do a pollyanna gift exchange on Saturday night with a camping theme and $5 or $10 limit. We could also have a Christmas decoration contest.

In all of this heat I can't wait to go camping in the winter. Standing around a campfire and enjoying its warmth [CP]. Sleeping in my nice warm sleeping bag with just my mouth sticking out and seeing my breath [SNZ]

Matt, I don't care about the cold, it just depends how much snow is on the ground? They do plow the sites at French Creek if reservations are made. Count me in! [:O]

Early/mid January is really busy for me at work but I'll pencell it in. It also depends on the weather, getting off the Island is a real PIA when the roads are clear, so weather may be a factor as well. I will defiantly try to make it though.

I just heard on the radio this morning that this winter should be a mild one. All of last years snow was a fluke. We'll check the Farmers Almanac when it comes out to see what the weather is going to be like [SUN] [{}=] [:>(] I agree, if there is anymore than a dusting on the roads, I am out as well. I'm not towing a trailer in the snow even if I had 4wd (my Tacoma is only 2wd)

I'd love for it to snow on Wednesday before we go so that there is snow on the ground but the roads are clear. Then we can go sledding, snowball fights, snowmen, snowangels.....we'lll be snowcamping !!!!

Well, I'm up for it Matt. But like Joe said, if there's a foot of snow on the ground, it won't be much fun.

If there is snow on the roads, I don't think anyone will be there. But if the roads are clear it looks like 5 of us may be there. It could be the smallest PUP rally ever :)

The amount of people gathered doesn't matter as long as we're gathered around a PUP flag

This past New Years Ju-Di,Tim_Rhonda and us went camping. It was very chilly in NC. The air temps where in the mid teens and winds dropping it into the single numbers. Had the gas heater and electric heater going and the pup was in the 50's. Still had a good time the wind was so strong we could not be by the fire. We might do it again this year have to see aboutthe weather. Dont have to worry about the campground being booked up. [LOL] [LOL] [LOL] Have fun if you go winter camping!!!

Matt, count us in. Camping in the snow last New Year's was neat, but I won't tow in it. Snow on the ground is fine. As long as the roads are clear & my trailer isn't buried behind 5' high plow made snowmounds, we'll be there.

Racerx - Glad you are interested. It will be at French Creek, one of the few campgrounds open during the winter in PA and it will be over Martin Luther King Weekend, Friday January 14 through Monday January 17, 2011, in case anyone wants to make it a 3 day weekend.

I guess I should get off my butt and book my site to turn this into an official Rally.

I was waiting to get up there to survey the sites to see which one I want. I am usually in a pet site but I will be leaving my dog at home during this trip with my wife and son, it will probably be a little too cold for them.

I am the first one to book a site during that entire weekend. I booked C3 for Friday and Saturday night. I plan to take Friday off and be there by noon.

I just booked C-5. I'll bring some firewood, a friend on mine has a good quantity and asked me if I could use it since they don't use their fireplace anymore. I have a feeling we will be around the fire a lot!

Thats great news about the firewood [CP] We can meet up and I can help transport some of it. I expect we will have a fire going all day pretty much.

I just hit 1,000 posts [::)] I was close before the Admin's started cleaning up the old posts and my number dropped 50 posts but here I am, I worked back up and finally hit 1,000 Yeah!!!!!!

What does everyone think of a grab bag for our gathering Saturday night around the fire? I have a few ideas:

1-We can do $5 and under
2- Regift. Everyone gets a fondu pot at some point in time that they know they will never use and it didn't come with a gift receipt.
3- Used gifts. No underwear but something you pick up at a garage sale, out of your attic, etc. Again, $5 limit.

Basically I would want to keep this as inexpensive as possible. Everyone has enough expenses over the holidays. This is a way to see how creative people can be and have a good time. Nobody is getting a Wii out of this.
