One of our camper tires (less than 3 years old and approx. 3400 miles on it) has wires sticking out of it. It kept slowly losing air so DH took it off to have a good look at it. Tire and tread in perfect condition but there are long wires sticking out of it. What could cause this?

I'm taking it to Discount Tire tomorrow because they have a liftetime warranty and nowhere near their life span in either age or wear.

I Googled to see if they were recalled or something but nothing came up.

It's sitting on the deck but too dark to take a photo. I'm going to add a photo that I found on the internet as an example.

THE IMAGE IS NOT MY TIRE.

Orchid that Doesn't look good, I surely would not travel with it. I hope that they will treat you right as it should be and replace the tire.

Something like that looks like it was run over and not coming from the inside out. Waiting for tour pictures! I hope you get it resolved, i hate wires in my tires!

That almost looks like road debris and not part of the belt. Can they be pulled out?

Definitely not. It's off the camper and not going back on.

Coming from the inside out for sure. It's in more than one spot on the tire and longer than the ones in the photo. It can't be pulled out. Just very bizarre.

Even if it turns out that it's from some kind of debris, the extra warranty I paid for will cover it. But I really don't think it is. I'll take a photo of ours tomorrow when it's light.

EDIT: I got some photos of our actual tire. Wires coming out in many places. I'm going to upload some pics to Imgur and post in a few.

They can't be pulled out and are all over the place. Pictures not that great because porch light kept going off. It's motion activated and I guess I wasn't moving around enough.

That's the steel belt coming out and untwining. You need to replace the tire. Don't let them clip the wires and tell you you're fine to drive on it.

Thanks everyone. Taking to the tire place today. Makes me think we need to pull the other one and check it.

Replace both and the spare, if all were purchased at the same time.

Never got a chance to go to tire dealer today, but will tomorrow. I am hoping they will replace all 3 even though the others look fine.

I paid $20 per tire (or some similar amount) for lifetime warranty, including road hazards. They are supposed to replace for any reason. I'll report back tomorrow on how it goes at Discount Tire.

I would say wires coming out from inside of the tires are a good cause for them to replace them. There is always, if you dont and something happens i will sue the ( insert bad word here) out of you. But try the nice approcha first[:D]

Just out of curiosity, what brand are they and can you read the date of manufacture on the sidewall?

I listed the brand and numbers on my original post. I'll have to check the date when I'm outside next time. I bought them 1/2017 and would not have taken them had the manufacture date not been very recent. I would have checked it for 100% certain.

Didn't have any paperwork from buying them. Took the tire back today and they gave me a new one for $45 out the door, mounted and balanced. They claim I didn't buy the lifetime warranty and I can't prove them wrong. They gave me some credit because I was mad, but not much else either of us could do.

I'll have DH pull the other tire when we get this one back on Tuesday.

I found the old invoice in my email. It clearly shows I paid for the "refund/replacement certificates" on all the tires. I had searched my email folder for Discount Tire, but once I found out the date I had them mounted I was able to find it. It was from "Consumer Affairs!"

Armed with the PDF of the invoice, I hope to leave Discount Tire today without paying for this new tire.
