Hey friends! So I am trying to plan this crazy first road trip and I have hit a bump.... so we are going to be staying in Bryce Canyon KOA for a couple of nights and then we want to go to Yellowstone. I know we probably won't make it there in a day so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where to camp along the way up there. I tried the Jackson Hole KOA but they require 2 nights minimum and a river trip. We only plan on staying a night and then heading up to Yellowstone the next morning. Any campsites there would also be awesome. The National Park Website is slightly confusing and I haven't figured out how to reserve yet :(

    Thanks in advance!

I live in Jackson. Long way from Bryce to Yellowstone. I’d want to stop a bit earlier. But if you want to push to JH I can steer you in right direction

I stayed here on my way to Yellowstone in 2017. Nice place, just a big field but water and power.

The slightly longer but prettier way from Utah to Yellowstone is to go by Bear Lake and the small towns north. There is a KOA in Garden City, UT which we love to stay at. Also Bear Lake State Park if not on a weekend could have a spot with power and much cheaper than the KOA. If you want to try to make it to Teton, Gros Ventre Campground is FCFS and most likely would have a spot.

We have such a short amount of time we are trying to drive one day, ALL DAY, so we can relax the next 2... I’ll let you know how it works out! And I would love your advice!

That’s all we need! I’m guessing that I’ll be ok if we just show up?

When are you coming? Try reserving a site at Flagg Ranch. Big campground about 5 miles from the south entrance. The Gros Ventre campground in GTNP is a possibility but doesn’t take reservations. Getting there late in the day may be tough depending on the time of year.

I would think so, especially if it's a weekday.

Thing is, after driving all day, you only need a place to setup, go to bed, take-down, and get back on the road. Also being convenient to the highway is a plus. You don't want to spend 20 minutes each way getting from and to the highway.

From their website: All individual campsites are first come first serve, and reservations are not available. Generally, these sites do fill June 20 - August 15 each summer, and we recommend arriving by noon to secure a site. Although we cannot guarantee, outside of these dates sites generally do not fill. Gros Ventre will fill between 4:00pm and 9:00pm each day.
