i have a 2011 rock wood freedom with a manual lift system. I believe it is a goshen type. When I lower the roof I get a very loud pop while cracking. Is this because I am cranking too fast? Is the noise normal or something to be concerned about. I don’t recall but I don’t think it does it while raising just lowering.

It doesnt sound normal to me. Is it just one or two pops as it comes down or is it a rhythmic popping as you lower it?

The first thing I think I'd do either way is to get a few friends to watch each corner and see if something is getting stuck, then coming loose.

My trailer which is using electric motor raise/lower sometimes makes noises like that when coming down... They are not LOUD POPS but a noise of some sort as the raise bar is coming down... It is usually because I am not on level ground at the time...

I use the trailer end stabilizer jacks to level my trailer when setting up and probably should leave the jacks up until I lower the roof to keep the platform level...

I like to level my trailer very good end to end as my front door will not open easily unless it is level. This is the only area where I have bubble installed near the door bottom.

I always like to drop the back of the roof an inch or so to allow water to roll off the roof to the rear of the trailer instead of down on the front patio area...

It doesn’t pop the whole way down. Just usually once.

I have a Rockwood with the Goshen.

Mine Pop's on the way up. (Usually sounds like it's coming from the winch). Not sure I've ever heard a pop on the way down (Other than the lifter slides dropping, as roybraddy said, when off level).

Where does the sound, sound like it's coming from?

Watch the slides on the lift arms. Sometimes one of mine will hang up then fall down resulting in what sounds like a pop. A little dry silicone lube will help prevent that.

You mean the 4 vertical slides? I probably should lube them. I have greased the underside of the lift system but haven't poured oil down the verticals. Maybe that is why it is popping?

Not uncommon at all with any lift system in which a cable wraps around a winch drum. Occasionally one wrap of the cable will slip off the cable wrapped below it, causing this noise. Our '98 Jayco did this, any Fleetwood we owned did not as it's an entirely different lift system that doesn't rely on wrapping a cable in multiple layers around a drum.

I wondered if that might be what was happening but wanted to ask on here.
