So..I bought a brake controller (Prodigy P2) from a fellow forum camper subscriber.
he said the controller worked....and I'm giving him the benifit of the doubt.
The wiring harness came with the clippped off (rough ended) cables cause the previous owner used a Chevy and I have a Ford...so understandable.

So I purchased myself a "NEW" wiring harness that goes from the controller to the connector under my truck dash.
Alls fine so far.

Took the truck to get the 7-pin/4-pin combo wiring installed. Tech searched high and low for a "power line" and couldn't fine one on the so-called "factory tow-package" unit that was on the truck.

I'm glad I took it to a tech cause so far...it would have been too much for me to do.

Anyhow....issue comes when the P2 is conncectc....it only has the two dots....showing on the screen.
There are no "intensity digital numbers" showing up?

I'm sure (at least like I said...I'm giving the seller the benifit of my incompetence here) that I need to do a proper "SETUP" of the P2 unit....cause the only thing I can do is cycle thru the b.1 b.2 b.3 and . . settings....so I'm sure I'm doing something incorrectly......could someone here help in the diagnostic of the P2 brake controller unit for setup?

I'm hoping the seller (of this forum) didn't sell me a broken unit :(

I know on a bunch of different controllers the numbers will not come up until the brake peddle is pressed and the camper (7 round) is plugged in.

We had the same wonder when I installed mine. Then connected the trailer and applied the brakes and it came to life. Then was the fun of setting it and such!

Enjoy!

ok...I'm hoping that is the case with mine....
the camper is not connected yet.
and I'm waiting to install brakes "ON" the actual camper...but I do have the 4-pin connector I tested it on...so...I'm hoping that is the case here as well.

I'm sure there are some quirky nuinsenses (sp?) that I'm not aware of...so hopefully it work properly...

It did take me forever to get it set right. The brakes do require a 7 round connector. And if you are very interested, Fleet Farm does sell a 7 round tester that you can plug in and test all 7 pins. This will send a 'false' connection to the controller to say something is connected and you can hit the brake peddle and see if the numbers start flying. I love the tester and use it all the time with friends trucks and beginning of each season with my truck just to make sure my connectors are installed correctly.

[2C] Hope all works out! [:D]

Just purchased that controller myself, the two dots mean it is working, you cannot get the gain to light up unless a trailer is hooked up. you will love this controller, I have a new keystone hideout that weighs in at 4400 and I keep on boost 1

Rob....I wouldnt hose you.....sent you 2 responses to your email but both bounced back for some reason. The two dots mean its in stanby. After awhile they will go out if you do not touch anything and it will be in sleep mode. It will not do shutting else until its connected to a trailer with brakes. All normal.

well i appreciate that sir....thank you.
Like I said...I'm sure it's something stupid that "I" am doing...just dunno what the heck it is...
So...soon as I get the trailer with brakes hooked up and dialed in....I'll report back to all.

Again...my apologizes for sounding "paniky" here...it's all new to me.

well that was the thing that kinda freaked me out....the tech at the shop "did" indeed connect a unit that immulated the camper connected...but he couldn't get any number to flash up...just was able to scroll thru the b.1 b.2 b.3 and .r settings but no numbers showed up....so perhaps once I have the "real" camper hooked up it will be different.....thanks.

ok...so here is the brake controller unit. it's got the two (. . ).
I'd like to know how you all "connected" it to your truck console?
I could drill two holes thru that plastic rim part...add a bendable piece of strap metal with holes in it so I can position it as I want when I'm driving.....but I'd like some suggestions on where to install it?

Seems there is no real "convinient" place on this dern Explorer console to bolt it on to.

thanks.

Not familiar with your vehicle, but this is the most common installation location.

(Also, I have to comment on your subject line and the way you worded your post. If I was the seller, I'd be offended. I'm glad Old_Geezer has a thicker skin than I do.)

I mounted mine to a fuse box cover by my left knee. I bought a spare cover that I put on when not towing for a while

I did apologize to the man...so....
thing is...I'm not sure why the tech's simulator plug in didn't cause the numbers to come up?
But...like the seller stated...I'll need to hook up the camper once it's all dialed in and see if the unit activates properly.....so that's where we stand.

But to reiterate.....I have apologized...

ahh...ok..then it appears the unit "MUST" be connected "AND" brakes applied...not even if the tech connected that dummy camper connector simulator unit....so I'll wait n see. I have hope that it's a good unit.....really I do.

As my LEO wife always says...."Guilty until proven innocent" at least that what she always stated when it was anything I was involved in.....Kidding...sheesh...kidding.....gosh.

This is a photo of mine, its kinda zoomed in so you cannot see much, but I do not have a center console or anything, but this is where the previous owner had drilled the holes otherwise I would have put it elsewhere.

It is right at my right knee, but never hit it with my knee. This about maxes out my wires. Could extend them but like I said this is where the previous owner drilled.

If it if like my primus IQ the only numbers I see it display are for the temp parking brake function. The only time you will see it change numbers I'd when you are actually braking and that is when I don't want to be looking down.
If you are taking about setting the innital adjustment then you need the trailer connected.
